After taking off the up-lift from my part-ex and the 2K deposit allowance, mine works out around 18K, including 5yr warranty and 3 years servicing :D

Thanks guys, useful feedback and good to have the comparison between the two engines from Colin as you never know how much people's different driving styles affect the figures they get.

I drive a Peugeot 307, 1.4 (90bhp) at the moment and trip computer averages 37/38mpg which is mostly shorter journeys / town driving. It suits me fine most of the time but struggles sometimes with overtaking & hills!

So the 1.0 (125) EcoBoost is going to give me an extra third on horsepower, a few extra mpg and a good old saving on the road tax as well as being cheaper to purchase (or more money to spend on upgrade goodies!) It's certainly the sensible option on paper but a part of me keeps wondering if it's enough - perhaps need to test drive one up some hills!

  • Author

Definitely need to test drive it, but my mums ecoboost powers up hills no problem.

She averages in the low to mid 40s at the moment.

Just make sure you get the 125 with the much better 6 speed box.

I used to have no problem on the hill climb in the 125 stayed in 6th gear and easy 80 on 2500 revs.

I found If you wanted to overtake a bit sharp like on the motorway I would drop down to 5th and fly with the boost :)

My mum says the same about her 207 1.4! Great little car and good on fuel but struggles a bit to get going. Refined and comfortable and motorway speeds though. I'd have it or another 207 or 208 if I couldn't have a Focus.

Is the difference between the 5 and 6 speed box on the Ecoboost really that noticeable?

  • Author

In a word, yes.

You get better pulling power as the gears are spaced better. It is also a much slicker box.

Excellent thanks, I'll try and aim for the 125 then.

It all depends on ho much insurance is though. :(

I think the 5 speed is only available with the 100hp 1.0 and the 6 speed with the 125hp version. I've had a few 125hp versions at work once and they're perfectly adequate for local and motorway driving. I like the extra oomph of my 1.6 150 though!

Just been wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the first oil change.

Is it worth asking Ford to do it at the free checkup? Or does it not matter anymore and just change it at the first 12k/1yr service interval?

Hi Alex will fords get in touch with you on the 6 month free check up the dealer never told me about this

Has anyone changed the headlights on their Focus MK2.5. Quite interested in doing that this year

Focus Titanium X Navigator, 1.0 (125PS) in Magnetic metallic ordered, should have it early March :D

Just hoping I can tease another 6 weeks out the clutch on my 307!!

Just come back from the dealer, having ordered a 1.5 Ecoboost Zetec S with lots of goodies. :D

Estimated build date is 10th Oct, with ETA 9th Nov, although dealer has said it is likely to take longer than that due to the number of options I have added, so we'll see.

Can't wait, this will be my first new factory ordered car :driving:

UPDATE 6/12/14:

Just checked the Ford website and that comes to a total of £23,335. How are you funding that kind of money if you don't mind me asking? Monthly payments if poss so I can get an idea of what of what's 'possible'...

No-one should ever pay list price for a Ford, there are always discounts to be had. That is what annoys me about car reviews comparing to the likes of a vw, saying the ford is too expensive, based on list, ignoring what you can actually buy them for and the offers available.

I put down the max deposit of about 5.5k from my part ex.

It is costing me around £225 a month for 2 years, then I will refinance the 9.5k GMFV.

So without the interest it works out about £19,400.

I also got the 5yr warranty and 3yrs servicing included in that price. My dealer also gave me above book price on the part ex, which is why IMO it works out about 18k for the new car. :)

Have you thought about doing some "pre-lessons" off road?

It's great for any new driver beginning to learn.

I've done it a few times and I love it, full instructor lessons and it's great fun! I've learnt most of the things covered in the test, and I've even driven when there has been other traffic about (not a public road)

You ca do your theory too before you learn can't you?

Still not before you are 17 though.

Ah ok, I was under the impression you do it once you were 16 and 9 months, my bad!

Still not before you are 17 though.

Just looked online yep your right :)

I think you can apply for the provisional when you are 16.
