Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

I had a traffic penalty notice come through the mail on 17th Oct from Lewisham council. I had to Google Lewisham to see where it was. 😂

Allegedly filmed  driving through a pedestrianised area. I was at at work at the time of incident. Not me. Photographic evidence looked like my reg number and same type of car. I looked again at numberplate and saw the black  number plate screw obscured the letter D to look like B . Obviously no human intervention before a penalty is generated.  The penalty notice stated the colour of the car as blue as per my car but image is of a grey car.

I put in a challenge but not heard from them since, awaiting a human reply. How long should I wait until I need to chase up?

Should say there is a Kona in grey with the reg ending CDU on DVLA database.

I believe they have 21 days to respond.

Years ago I got a penalty notice for a yellow box, from a town to which I have never been.  Image was of a white flat bed transit or similar - description was a blue 2008 Focus, and it was obvious the registration number was wrong..... I hope yours get sorted as easily as mine did.

You just can't get the staff.

I can see why they don't know the difference between blue or grey ....

Lewisham council can't spell 'colour' 🤣

There isn't a Lewisham in the USA, by any chance?

I don't think the range of Ian's EV would stretch that far 🤣

Ah, but Ian wasn't in Lewisham (wherever it is), of course!

I'm hoping the rain doesn't come down too much tommorow. Our river level prediction isn't looking too good.

I was getting concrete delivered tomorrow at my daughters farm. I've dug 6 holes each 450 x 450 x 800 Deep. went up to check things over today and found the holes are more than 600mm deep with rain water. Concrete delivery is now cancelled and a water pump has been ordered 🙁

And that's before this lot from storm Claudia arrives. My brother in law will be quiet at work tommorow I guess . He delivers concrete .

Whose your mate then? 😂

Our hosepipe ban here in the south was only lifted a week or two ago.  Yorkshire still has a ban in place ?  When a river is that high, there often seems to be debris or trees blocking the flow.

Stay dry gents.

Indeed it does. Going by the sheer volume of water which they allowed to flow past my house while peering into manhole covers on several occasions this year, I'm not surprised!😀

But seriously, the country as a whole does seem to get plenty of rain, we just appear to be incapable of capturing and storing it.

Rather like building more and more solar arrays and wind turbines, without the means of storing the surplus for nights with no wind.

I don't like having power cuts, no internet or TV! I had to speak to my family 😮 on the plus side, they seem quite nice! 🤣

What's a power cut ?

It is something that stops your 'phone working unless you have a UPS.......

First Xmas song on the radio this evening! 😮

Back to Radio X for now...until they start playing Xmas songs.  Open to recommendations for any stations without any Xmas songs!

Knowing my luck they'd be playing Nutcracker or Greensleeves!

Planet Rock! Although one of the DJs plays a bit of 'Last Christmas' just to annoy the Whamageddon players! 🤣

Alternator failure almost 5 years to the day since I replaced it last.

On the 29th December 2020, I had to replace the alternator on my daughters Kuga. It was a re-manufactured unit but has been fine until Christmas Eve when all hell broke loose and the instrument cluster was like a a Christmas tree.

So today after some investigation I've discovered when the engine RPM exceeds 1500 the alternator starts throwing out between 16 and 18 volts and at idle only 11.5V It looks like the voltage regulator (inside the alternator) has lost the plot.

Tomorrow I'll have to start the mammoth task of taking have the engine bay to pieces just to get the alternator out. I'm not happy !

Gone are the days when all British built cars had Lucas Alternators and you could scavenge all the parts from any of them to get your old one working.

I once had a similar problem and the fix was to replace the Zener Diode, all the other Diodes came in the aftermarket pack as well.

Unfortunately Alternators are probably a lot more complicated now and the parts are not easily available as far as I know.

Ugh. Can you change the regulator in situ?
