One for my 2014 Tit ecoboost ideally.

Is there such a thing as a complete vehicle diagram?

Not sure about full wiring diagrams unless haynes manual do them, if your looking for a particular wiring colours for a circuit as such then I can help.

Cheers Ian, no, I have no immediate need, just interested is all.

That's quite difficult though due to minimal engine braking.

If the car doesn't want to slow down you just lift off earlier and let it run for longer. It's the lift point that matters and once you have lifted off, early/gentle brake has no fuel advantage over late/hard brake. Though a lot of early brakers can end up going back to the power before they reach whatever they were slowing down for; that is wasteful.

Well, I find it difficult and I'm always looking miles ahead. I'll need new brakes in 6 months. When I lift-off, virtually nothing happens.

Must be a very short-stroke.

Checked at local Ford dealers. They don't have the correct battery charger so couldn't charge my battery. They cost £1500. I had it booked in for a diagnostic check. One hours labour but when I picked the car up they said they could find nothing wrong except low battery. No payment required. Batteries only warranted for 1year.

So the battery tester didnt fail the battery, just low charge, I would reset the bsm as per my previous instructions. That may relearn the battery state .

Engine braking wastes fuel - when you're under power, that resistance is still consuming energy, except it is hidden from you. Much cheaper to make the brakes do the braking only when you need it. All else equal, a 3 cylinder engine has less resistance than a 4.

How does engine braking use energy? I daily go down a steep hill 2miles long, going down in 3rd my fuel gauge is showing 99.9 with-out wearing my brake pads and discs out whilst following cars with their brake lights on all the way down. Also I am recharging my battery at no cost.

Ian. I will try to reset my battery.

Is it naughty to slip the car out of gear when traveling down a long decline of road? This is a habit i've picked up from my step-dad, and this is something I still do to this day.

under engine braking the fuel injectors switch off thereby using no fuel. on older engine tech the fuel injectors were active all the time so under engine braking at high rpm more fuel was used. not the case with modern engines

Ian, I have reset battery according to your instructions but the battery light didn't flash so I take it that it didn't work.

Doesnt look like it,

I double checked the sequence that I posted on a fiesta same age and model as yours and it is correct.

strange if yours doesnt respond, im assuming you were pressing the rear fog button and not front?

L22EEW - Had you driven your car during your driving test out of gear ( coasting ) , you would have failed !

and with modern engines the kinetic energy on engine overun is now utilised for battery smart charging

Haha, that I do know.

Coasting is also bad driving practice & potentially / actually dangerous driving.

The engine is full of of whirring and churning bits that need power just to turn over. When you lift, that power comes from the motion of the car and is felt as "braking". When you drive the car the same power has to come from the fuel.

Ian, it was the front foglamp button that I pressed, is this right? also do you count each press of the button or on /off = 1 press ie. press on press off 5times & 3 times.

Each press of button. And Its the rear fog switch .

Just seen this thread again whats a this about resetting a new battery? Surly u put new battery in and its sorted?

Hi Ian, success the battery light flashed. Thank you. I will post if the s/s works tomorrow.

Adam, batteries on these cars can be a nightmare, if you jump start another car or are jump started you f--k the battery and you cannot use any old charger or you get the same result.

Mac

Hi Ian, went this morning for a long run and had stopped 3 times before I realised that the s/s was working. With the radio on I hadn't noticed that the engine had stopped and started. I just felt a slight bump as the starter kicked in then I eventually noticed the light in the dash. Thanks again for the info.

Mac

no problem , so your battery has more than 60 charge after all .lol so you dont need a battery , not just yet anyway. keep us informed if it continues to work over then next few days.
