I got caught in thick thick thick fog the other night. Came out of nowhere. its the first time I've ever had to use the foglights. Armed with 35w 5k HIDs I had no chance. could see a thing, except some bright white fog! I ended up doing 15mph through a 40 at one point. I wanted to pull over and see if it dissipated.. the joys of living near the sea! #clifftopdrives

Compared the glare the HIDs wee causing with the fog, the foglights stood no chance. ended up dropping to dipped beam and fogs

  • Folks you may have noticed that I've been relatively quiet on here for a while. The reason being, my wife and I have bought our first house together. We are finally getting settled and all is well so

  • That house looks very small... Or is it just far away?

Never drive on full beam in fog ! :)

Like I said, I'd never driven in fog before! And you don't get taught that on your driving lessons, and pass plus costs money! Haha

A good driving instructor should have taught you that - theoretically if not practically :)

I think I should come out of retirement :)

2nd thoughts - nah !

He possibly did Tbh, I go into the zone whilst people are talking sometimes and just agree with what they say whilst the words go straight over my head .

I passed after 11hours tuition & had no minors. I was 17 on the 16th Jan. My test was the 16th Feb. Would've been sooner but I failed my first theory test :(

This happened again:

Yellow fogs. Didn't look right on the MK2 but I think it's kinda cool on the MK3, especially matches with the HIDs.

Aaaahhh yellow fogs...it's been a long time :D ...but ok, for the safety reasons, I understand that yellow is better in fog than white...

Car looks nice though, with all the colour coded parts, very good look :) And love the StarWars collection! ;)

Did you do any driving before hand on private land? That is incredibly quick...

Not taking anything from you and please don't take offence, but that is too quick imo. There should be a minimum number of hours before someone can take their test.

I had a 50cc geared bike before hand so I knew a bit already & understood gears etc :)

I drove the car a little around the garages where we stored it until I got my learner insurance.

I then practised in my own car with my grandad. he has every catagory license and drives for a living. I then had 11 hours lessons with a family friend, who's a driving insructor. Hes had several of my friends pass with no minors in under 20 hours :)

I drove in my own car in all types of weather except fog & snow. I took the test in my own car. I had no prior experience driving on a motorway myself, but in sure those of whom I was in convoy with at fordfair will say I didn't do bad :)

No minors :)

If, in the considered opinion of the driving instructor, the novice is highly likely to pass a driving test, the driving instructor should present the candidate for said test

I just think there is a difference between test ready and ready to go on the road on your own. Kieran had other experience so it was more than 11 hours really.

The test doesn't cover enough imo, or they need to make pass plus mandatory. Some people pass their test having never driven in adverse weather or at night, and no idea of motorways (or even dual carriageways).

Anyway, we best try and get this back on topic, lol. Not fair on Kpg.

It should be noted that everyone learns at a different speed - some are more natural than others & passing one's test first time doesn't always mean one is a good driver - just a safe enough driver in the hour the examiner was examining you

I passed all 4 of my tests first time & I still learn something new everyday & that's after 36 years of driving

Driving is a life skill & we never know it all :)

My dad got his alloys refurbished today. It's a just a bog standard 520i but looks amazing with the M style alloys. I wasn't sure about black on black but I think this works well:

Might have to get mine done the same :p

Aw I lied, he's got a Green Cotton air filter in there. He ordered me one too but hasn't arrived yet, stock issues :-/

Should have it by Saturday hopefully.

All it needs then is a red L.E.D bar on the front that lights up from side to side. Throw in a dodgy haircut, leather jacket, flared trousers and finally change your name to Michael!

Its not for me sorry mate. Its too black but thats only my opinion. If you like it then go for it! ;)

Well it's in and after a quick drive I can honestly say that, so far, there's not one bit of difference lol

post-41109-144294313907_thumb.jpg

I'm not sure whether the thing has to relearn due to more air mixture blah blah blah but nothing different so far. Will know more maybe in a few days.

Won't make any difference to performance without a map to take advantage of it.

No difference as the original air filter is not restrictive , same filter used in other more powerfull engines, ie 2.0 tdci.

Strange. I got one for my mk2 at the time and that made a good bit of difference but that was the panel shaped one. Obviously the design was upgraded to the cylindrical which is better any ways.

Ah well, sack it, it's staying in regardless if it works or not :-)
