Removing Mk2 Focus Locking Wheel Nut Advice

Do you know the code number for your key ?

Yeah but getting quoted stupid prices, £50 odd quid for a key that might not even get the locking nut off.

Debating whether to get the 19mm nut removal bit, bang it on and breaker bar it and see what happens.

Funny thing is the key I’ve got takes off all the other 3 locking nuts, just not on the one offender. So don’t know if a new key will even help.

It’s had a good soak of penetrating spray, but no joy, followed by cutting out the spinning collar off the offending locking nut, and tried to hammer on a 19mm as it seemed to be the closest fit, but no joy. Will be back at it again tomorrow, hopefully with a better plan.

All you need to do is send a couple of good quality photos of the nut to the seller and they send you the correct locking wheel nut key. £11.99

Cheers buddy, appreciated. Can’t be paying £50 for a myth that might not work.

An alternative it to pop down to your local KwikFit, ATS or similar. This is their bread & butter, removing wheel nuts with missing keys. When you do get them removed, replace with standard non locking nuts. Locking ones are so 1990, no one nicks wheels anymore, they just take the car!

Finally got the stubborn f***** off in the end! Persistence and steady pulsing force on the breaker bar. Used penetrating spray the night before.

Cut the locking wheel nut spinning collar by jamming a flathead screwdriver up against it to stop it spinning while cutting it with a metal blade on grinder. I then used a metal punch and lump hammer to work on cracking the slit id cut with grinder on the spinning collar. Tapped away for a bit she’ll eventually cracked.

Once that was done, lump hammered on a 3/4” or 19mm (12 pointed) socket until it took a good grip on the security bolt. Attached a breaker bar and slow steady pressure cracked the nut without a bother. I won’t forget that stubborn nut in a hurry!

In case anyone ends up snapping off the locking wheelnut in an attempt to get it off ( like I did ) leaving a portion on the thread still in place , I managed to get the wheel off by using a suitably sized hole saw that cut the remaining piece out without damaging the wheel or the spindle . Cost about £10 and just made it through before the holesaw fell apart under the effort !. hth's someone one day .
