intermitant ignition problem

I have an intermitant ignition problem with my 2001 galaxy. I turn the key,all the usual lights come on but,nothing from the starter motor. There is no whirring noise or any sign of action. After a few attempts to start,it fires up as if there is nothing wrong. This happens about twice a month and does'nt seem to be weather related. The car runs fine apart from this issue.Any ideas and information would be greatly appreciated.
