Interesting that your map version is F6.1.  Did that change ?
My map version shows as EU 4 15.
No. I believe it was already on the system to start.

  • Good questions, Jonro. I know nothing but don't see why the engine would have to be running for the update to work. I vaguely recall that the owner's manual suggests the car just gets on with it.

Have you tried what I was saying about opening the install file in notepad to see if it's come all in one line? If you look a few pages down the focus threads for one about sync 1.1 you'll see it in t

  • @pragmatix problem is, that you should keep all the installation files .tar.gz in the "SyncMyRide" folder and not taking them out of the folder and putting everything together ;)

Yea but yours according to your profile is 2014 mine not yet a month old. Ford customer service has just told me that a map up date is due very soon wouldn't commit to exact date but sen end of March or April, I did point out this is the end of March ,  they wouldn't say if it was downloadable or not

Looks like Ford has in the factory some kind of Wheel of Fortune when it comes to nav maps versions, lol

March 2017 Focus here as well.

Just updated mine.... several of my reported bugs have been fixed.

1.

Now fixed.

2.  If you have album art embedded in your MP3 files, it is completely ignored - even if you set priority to media and not gracenote.
this is mentioned in the comments here - https://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2016/06/28/ford-sync-album-art/

Now fixed.

3.  The wrong 'artist' tag is used.  They've used Album Artist and not Track Artist.  This means Various Artists albums don't display correctly.

NOT FIXED.     Tag TPE2 should be used for Album Artist and TPE1 for the Track Artist.   I will have to copy TPE1 into TPE2 for all my VA files.

4.  Maps woefully out of date.

NOT FIXED.  I'll just use Waze instead.

The instructions on the Ford site are really poor.

First it says to format exFAT.  Don't.  exFat is not recognised by Sync (at least not my 2017 Focus).  Use FAT32.
Then it says to follow on screen prompts.  There aren't any.  Just a banner change after a few minutes to say it's installing (and no indications to say it's whirring away)
Then it says it will display "restarting system".  it doesn't.
Then it says to not press Yes or No when prompted, but "Not right now" instead.  This isn't displayed.

It does however tell you when it's complete and that you can remove the USB stick, and that when you next start up it will be upgraded.

Mine was a 2.3 before I upgraded so maybe that's why it was different, but I doubt it.

There is an xml file titled Sync_NW2H00BY_WF06XXGCC6**********.xml which was written by the upgrade process.

...and a tip for those who don't know... To quickly get the VIN so you can download, go to https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do and put in your Reg Plate.  It will provide the VIN after a successful search.  If you don't get the Reg Plate box, check preferences are right.

One odd thing is that there are lots of screen shots around like:

waze-screen.jpg

Mine certainly doesn't have a Waze icon there - even though I can run Waze through Android Auto.

I used EXFAT and it worked fine but in saying that I didn't try any other format.

Might be a screenshot of waze update as an app as it looks like how Sygic deals with it by replacing the navigation icon by its own.

I'm still hoping we get waze natively to replace here maps as the actual car navigation.

My updated system still won't show sygic

Have u tried USB stoney. For sygic on android I had to enable apps via USB and plug phone in.

I wasn't keen on small screen for map though and didn't stumble on an option to enlarge it.

Could be I didn't give it long enough to see the stick with exFAT.  As it didn't recognise it immediately, I removed it and read the instructions again.  The link for how to prepare your stick says to use FAT32, but the main instructions say exFAT.

Tried via USB with applink and fordpass but still no joy.

My local Ford dealer were unsure how to do the SYNC3 update....ridiculous! I been trying without success? Downloaded and unzipped the file which creates the folder Sync3UpdatePackageA. Do I copy this folder to the USB, or just the contents of the folder i.e. SYNCMYRIDE etc.

Whatever I have tried so far hasn't worked, followed instructions on the update website page, had the engine running for over an hour, no messages about update on the screen.......nothing???

Can anyone help please?!

You copy it exactly as it is to the USB so will be a syncmyride folder plus a couple of other files sitting outside the folder.

When it's plugged into USB it should only take 5 mins to start the process.

USB should be EXFAT though some say it still works as FAT32.

It'll say updating at the top. After a while it'll either restart or at least msg will go away. It isn't finished. After another few mins it'll start updating again. When it's done it'll say to remove USB.

You should then when u get the chance turn off car. Lock it up. Give it a couple mins then check us updated.

Thanks for the reply Allan!

Ive formatted the USB as exFAT. I've tried moving the unzipped folder which contains the SYNCMYRIDE folder and the 2 files. Also just copied the SYNCMYRIDE folder and the 2 files over having removed them from the top folder. Have yet to see any messages on screen at all. I'm obviously doing something wrong??

So, do you mean, you copy just the SYNCMYRIDE folder and the 2 files to USB. Not the upper folder that they are originally contained in. Sorry, I'm a bit thick? 😀

Dave.

My file downloaded as a zip called sync3updatepackage. Zip

I unzipped that to USB which meant a folder called syncmyride and 2 files; autoinstall. Lst and dontindx. Msa got moved to there.

Within the syncmyride folder are about 8 files.

I don't seem to have this upper folder you mention. You might have to try it both ways.

The other thing is the USB I think has to be 32gb minimum and possibly it doesn't like some makes mine is a 32gb SanDisk cruzer edge. Don't think the best make in the world.

@Hinckleyfox i have updated from FAT32 without problems. The problem actually is that SYNC3 is somehow very picky on USBs, if possible try different USB.

I received the SYSTEM update message immediately after i have pluged the USB.

Hi all,

I have a 65 plate Mondeo and I will be upgrading my Sync 2 to a new Sync 3 head unit next week. I downloaded the Sync 3 Version 3 update from the Ford website and I was given a number of different updates, some that were labelled as VIN numbers and others that were called Sync3UpdatePackageA.

I am going to try Sync3UpdatePackageA when I get the car upgraded to the new Sync 3 head unit.

My question is... when I upgrade to the Sync 3 unit, is there anyway to update the VIN number with Ford to reflect that I no longer have Sync 2, but now have Sync 3 and be able to get the updates for Sync going forward?

whats involved changing sync2 to 3 on a mondeo?

@Grimskull2008 after the S2 to S3 change the Ford servers will not recognize that you have already  S3 installed. Have already tryed.

In order to havr the S3 after the upgrade officially you need to buy an official license from Ford to do this. But i also fear it will work only for RS. Please check the chapter needed parts, point 4 from my instructions. I have pu there a photo how the license look like along with the Ford catalogue part number.

@iantt you can check my how to guide, it is for Focus but you have to do exactly the same for Mondeo and other Ford models.

I found someone on eBay that sells the units (has great feedback) and have been emailing him about this. He can fit the Sync 3 unit plus all it needs for £900 plus fuel for driving to my house in Surrey. Doing it tomorrow morning so hopefully all goes well. He programs the units to your VIN numbers so it's all ready to go when he arrives and takes about an hour to install. Yes it may be a lot to upgrade but I spend a lot of time in my car for work so in my mind it's worth it. Will let you know how it goes!!  I just want to get it updated to Sync 3 version 3 as the units come from other cars.
