haha, thanks Lenny and Ghana. She's adorable really, loves people, little bit unsure of dogs at the moment, but had a good play with a collie puppy the other day, enjoyed winding up an older spaniel and in a puppy class on Sunday she was good at making friends (sarcasm), her and a staffie puppy started off playing then when the staffie was getting the better of her she turned nasty and the two had to be separated to calm down - fine with the other dogs - I guess two terriers each flexing their muscles. She's got a great character, but is a bit of a bossy little sod - so we'll see where that goes. Pret is coping, doesn't like the early morning wake ups from puppy demanding play time... so there has been a load of growls, couple air snaps, but thats about it.... they share beds - didn't particularly encourage it - just woke up one morning and found them like that... not sure what happens when she grows up, a couple elephants in a bed... They played a bit of tug of war earlier...both crashed out now..3 points

I used to sell cars. Someone came in with a daily mileage of 10 and was insistent that they really wanted a 2.0 CDTI engine (Because they could, lol) Guess where that car spent most of it's time - on the ramp in the workshop being fixed due to the DPF absolutely choking itself to death.3 points

Stick with petrol. Diesels are about to be taxed out of existence. Sent from my SM-G930F3 points

Anyone else think it's a bit coincidental that it's only within the last few weeks that Corsa's have been bursting into flames too... ...about as long as Ian has been saying he was looking at leaving VX? :D2 points

That reminds me, the people opposite who had far too many Vauxhalls to be considered healthy; have replaced their Corsa with a Fiesta, their Zafira with a Sharan and their Insignia with a Mondeo; all within the last month. The elderly Frontera is still there though2 points

I had this debate when choosing my car earlier this year. I went with the 1.5TDCi TitX in the end. Couldn't justify the extra cost for a bigger engine and looks vs economy and tax. Both the ST3 and Tit X will be very similar if not the same for features i.e City Stop, Moving Xenons etc.2 points

I've heard of it before, they might try a software update first. Otherwise it will be a new headlight. All under warranty though, they know about the issue. (Ford that is, not necessarily your dealer, lol).2 points

Finally the screenwash warning light came on lol! So I checked this...all of the Halfords concentrates are the same... They are advertised at the concentrated temp, not the diluted temp. So is it the same stuff in both bottles!? My don't like for today is facebooks yearly review... I know my life's really boring, didn't need facebook confirming that!2 points

Road tax isn't changing for existing cars. All the new ones from March 2017 will be £140 a year (except the first year which will differ depending on price and emissions). So if you do want to get a brand new one, make sure it's registered before March lol. As you're getting fairly low MPG I'll guess a lot of your driving is short journeys or in town? Definitely avoid modern diesels if that's the case! You'll have no end of DPF and EGR problems.2 points

Yes, it's possible A chap I used to know from the Volvo owners club, was railway engineer. He fitted, mainly for his own amusement; a train horn to his Volvo 940 Estate. His horn set up (tanks, compressor etc) occupied most of the back seat and boot area, leaving little room for passengers. You can always fit a ships horn, if the train isn't loud enough for you. Here someone with both on his car He clearly didn't think they were loud enough and upgraded to something bigger2 points

It is not easy. It needs a few bits of special equipment. Engine has to be supported to remove an engine mount, puller to remove pulley, some pins to fix the crankshaft & camshaft in position. It rates 4 spanners in Haynes (suitable for experience DIY mechanic). I recommend getting the Haynes, and reading the relevant sections. In this weather, it will ideally need a warm, dry, well lit garage to work in, and plenty of time. It is not a job to be rushed. So it is not impossible for a newcomer to DIY, but it is several stages on from the jobs you have done.2 points

How very ageist of you Tom! In all seriousness, I do prefer electric windows, but in winter they are a pain in the backside when they freeze shut. I've never had a problem with the 405s windows in winter, as even if they are frozen a good yank on the winder frees them up, but in the Focus and C220 the electric motors are too weak to break the ice and you have to wait for them to defrost naturally, which can take over 30 minutes. Not exactly convenient if you want a quick cigarette on the drive to work!! Speaking of which (and getting back on subject), one of my colleagues quit smoking today... She sold her Corsa!! (Drum-roll please...).2 points

i can confirm that oil does indeed give smoother gear shifts, i put it in a mazda3 i had with 2nd gear change issues . made a bad box much easier on gear change .1 point

I have now had the alternator replaced and good news. The problems have now gone. So the strange dimming of lights and brightening etc with more revs has now entirely gone. The whine that was also present has gone entirely. So appears something in the alternator mus have burnt out and wasn't running correctly, even though the alternator was showing the correct volts. Many thanks everyone for your help.1 point

My grandfather was an alcoholic as well, but thankfully hasn't had a drink since the 1980s. My mother's problem is a bit more complicated... She can do without alcohol, and stay off it when working and driving, but when she starts drinking, it is a downward spiral, which can result in some very poor behaviour, especially if she cannot get more alcohol. But, there is no point dwelling on it. Alcoholics (regardless of the "type") cannot be helped by others, and need to make the change themselves. Some will never change, my mother being a prime example.1 point

My father was an active alcoholic for 22 years, i escaped home at 15 and met the now wife which in recent times 16 years later is driving me to drink meself 😅 it's never easy mate1 point

I bought some mud flaps off him, when I got the Mk1 Focus on his ebay account, allegedly genuine Ford one's. Apart from the fact they looked nothing like OE Ford when they arrived, the quality was abysmal and he wasn't selling them that much cheaper than say, Ford Parts UK. Paypal refunded me, when he didn't respond. He's been trading on ebay a lot longer than the dates given in that article.1 point

Memory loss doesn't sound all that bad... Do you forget minor embarrassments and awkwardness from the day/week/life? The amount of time I spend shouting at myself (in my head lol) to forget about something or let it go is ridiculous... Some of the things happened over a decade ago...they're usually the ones to pop up at 3am and stay there a couple of days...1 point

That sounds more like a Twitter review! No the facebook review basically chooses your 'best' pictures and statuses (statii!?) of the year to remind you how it's been... Good idea in principal but mine was 3 car pictures, a broken wheel nut and a couple of happy birthday posts... On the subject of car pictures, I just took this one this afternoon...lovely autumn scene...ruined by that overhead cable!! Didn't notice it at the time.1 point

I disagree, I had the Mondeo ST TDCi and thought it was great, still plenty fast enough compared to the petrol ST220 and loved it even more when it was equiped with Superchips Bluefin. If i had the money i would opt for the ST3 but im still a boy racer at heart.1 point

Thought i'd better update this thread. i ended up taking the car to a independent Ford garage who said they could program the ic to the car for me , when i went to collect the car the guy said for some reason he couldn't do it so ended up parking the car up for a wile on the drive till i had more time to play with it. So some time has passed and had to move the car a week or so ago, not sure what has happened ti the time it was parked up but every thing is working as it should. i have no eml and now have the speedo and the millage display. have been using the car for nearly two weeks now with no problems at all. what ever happen'd i'm happy with the result . now for some reason i'm helping a friend with his galaxy but that's another thread.1 point

Cheers for the help. ye the mirror caps look the part really easy to fit I think they really set the car but that's just my view 😂1 point

Yes mine replaced one of the number plate bulbs then you run it up inside the tail gate and out through the rubber grommet between the tailgate and roof of the car I would try using something like Bowden cable as use for pushbike brake cable to run it through as it would be flexible enough. Then you run it along the left hand side of the headlining. Someone had done a tutorial on the forum just can't remember who it's vote a good chance of being Lenny or maybe Rree you also need to take a feed from the reversing light to power the camera up when in reverse it's a bit involved but well worth it in the end. Good luck1 point

It depends on what sort of mileage you do a year ? Less than 12k then petrol is a better option. Lots of short journeys kills diesels and can clog up the dpf filter. You will loose a lot of money swopping it over to a diesel as diesels demands a higher premium from the offset. Your current mpg is quite normal for a petrol .1 point

Just wondered what the hell it was. Thank you. Messed about with fords most of my life and this is the first time I've come across one.1 point

The C-max has left his rear window a little bit too open, wider enough for an arm to nab anything he's got on the back seat. Unless of course, he has a dog inside and it's for ventilation, in which case it's sensible1 point

I'm sure the mk7 fiesta uses a standard type bearing so you'll need access to a hydraulic press to remove and fit a new one.1 point

I don't like the incompetent idiot who clipped my wing mirror today. It was a 30mph road, cars parked along his/her side, but still easily wide enough for two big cars to pass. He/she came towards me with no sign of slowing, so I pulled over as tight to the kerb as I could. I was looking hard at the kerb, more than at the oncoming car. Then Bang !, and I saw my mirror tilted right in. I didn't see the driver, or the car type, though it was not a big one, he/she must have been several feet out from the parked cars. I don't think it was a BMW, cos' naturally I would have stopped, got out of the way and doffed my hat as it passed by if it was. I have been informed several times that BMWs have right of way at all times, and in all situations. Including, it seems, reversing: Since many insurance & finance people drive BMWs, I hope the Transit driver will still be able to claim.1 point
