  1. I do like picking up a free Hoover Crystaljet dishwasher last night! Having plumbed it in tonight, it appears to work fine, despite being unused for over a year with the previous owner who had no use for it. It also gave me an excuse to do a 250 mile round trip in the Focus, which I quite enjoyed! I didn't realise how boring driving had become with the late-C220, and the Focus' 1.8 petrol engine coupled with 5-speed manual transmission was just what I needed to bring some enjoyment back to driving again.

  2. I always use Tesco, mainly because they are the cheapest (well, second to ASDA) and I get clubcard points.

  3. Fiesta Zetec S - Red Edition Recently joined the eco boost squad, since I'm only 18! 140ps felt quite fast ( I know it's not don't worry 😂) here is some pics of my car and will be adding some mods.

  4. My Focus is a general workhorse. I carry anything and everything in it, but when I was doing some dry lining at a house this year, I was stuck for a way to transport 8x4 sheets of plasterboard from the Builders Merchant to where I am working. The solution then came to me when I was looking at one of the large pallets used to carry the plaster boards on lorries from the board manufacturers to the Builders Merchants. I decided that if I could fix one to the roof bars on my car and add some stops around the edges of the pallet to stop the boards sliding off, this would be a perfect way to transport half a dozen boards at a time - as many as I need in one go. The photo shows my contraption in operation, and it works jolly well. The pallet can be attached in about five minutes, and is also useful for transporting bulky stuff to the tip. All in all, it's a win, and I hope that passing on what I've done might help someone else out who has to transport sheets of board materials. I've used it for plywood and chipboard as well as plasterboard. Just use common sense and don't overload it and you'll be fine. David

  5. It's actually slight over spillage of biodiesel which I make myself and use to fuel the car. It's done over 200,000 miles and is a real workhorse. I do clean it off occasionally with a solvent, but it always gets like it after a while. When I do clean the car, the old girl comes up well.

  6. Something seems to have gone a bit wrong with the upload, the attached file is a .txt log file, with DTC P1180 being shown. It is not the .fsl data file that I was expecting. I was looking forward to seeing a mental pressure trace with almost un-abated excitement (Slight exaggeration, but sadly not a complete lie!)

  11. I do like buying myself a new pair of shoes for £7 tonight!! My current Doc Martens have been on their last legs for a while now, and the left shoe lets any water in that you walk over. I can only imagine it was due to the fact I drive a lot and the clutch pedal increased wear over the right shoe, which had an easy job by comparison. Obviously at the low price the quality won't be great and I expect to have to repair or replace them in 3-6 months, but even then that is still a good deal.

  12. It should be possible in all circumstances to unlock the front door locks manually. The key barrel in each door is mechanically connected to the lock. There is no electrical power needed at all to unlock the car manually. I personally expect the locks and/or keys to be worn out. The focus MK1/MK1.5 has Tibbe locks and keys. Tibbe locks and keys are known to wear out relatively quick. Tibbe keys are hexagonically shaped and have 6 (or in some cases 8) surfaces that are machined to a certain angle. Each surface can be machined to 3 possible angles. Many people only replace the keys if the locks and keys are worn out. However this is only a temporary solution. A worn lock will cause a new key to wear very fast. If the locks and keys are worn the only permanent solution will be replacing all keys and replacing or overhauling the locking barrels. The locking barrels contain a number of plates that match the angle of the angled key blade surfaces. Worn out locks can be overhauled by replacing the worn plates. The bonnet and trunk lock do not contain a full set of locking plates and are less critical for a worn key than the door and ignition locks.

  13. Been watching a set of ST seats (manual, not electric) for months now but never took the plunge because the price was too high. they had to be manual but I was waiting out for a blue set to match the interior lights and the exterior paint job. Well, woke up this morning and the seats had dropped by £250 so I bagged them! Cannot wait!! Happy Christmas everyone!!

  17. Had the new Lance out today from AutoBrite with their Magifoam HD snowfoam. I've used mine and the Mrs' cars for the test bench today - neither have been washed since September and haven't been today, but saying that, they aren't as dirty as they could be. Road salt has been down to a minimum this Christmas and we've both visit Tesco from time to time for a quick power spray (NO brush!!) just to keep the crud off as long as possible. The foam Lance is brutal, very sturdy construction and covered both cars 3 times each on the thickest setting. I found that the first coat stuck on like marshmallow and stood for 10 mins before needing a fresh coat, but each coat didn't last as long as the other...maybe less crud to stick to? Either way, it has left the cars looking much better even with the dirt still on there. The paint looks rejuvenated and fresh - cannot wait to give this a proper go in the next couple of months when the get a proper clean and shine. word of advice, don't do two cars at once especially in the warm and sunshine, this stuff sticks like crazy and needs a lot of water to remove properly! The first picture is the car on Friday to give an example of its cleaning ability without a touch wash.

  20. Lol, I think they'd be cleaned and probably boiled before reuse tbh! . Ghana seems to have it covered though, I don't have a compost bin so will stick them in the textile bin at Tesco unless it specifically says not to.

  21. Having returned from the emergency vets, I do like that Brandy hasn't broken a paw or hip I also like how efficient they are (admittedly at quite a cost fee wise), there was a triage team of 4 to meet Brandy in the car park I re-elasticate baggy boxers with a new strip of elastic, if they're still wearable and not excessively holey If they are 100% cotton or 100% silk (although I don't buy silk boxers), when they then develop holes at a later period in their life, I remove the nylon labels and buttons and pass them through the shredder, turning them into 6mm x 4mm pieces. Which are then mixed with the lawn mowings, and added to the compost bin. Cotton and wool (and silk, if I bought them) holey socks too, get shredded and added to the compost. whereas synthetic holey socks are taken to the textile recycling bin. I upgraded my office cross cut shredder, to be able to shred textiles and leather as well as paper and card. It might depend on your Council, but here, all textiles regardless of soiling and damage are welcomed in the textile bin. Those that can we reused are washed and sent to Oxfam, those that can't are shredded and processed, and go on to become something else. Sofa stuffing is a popular use for it and well as being incorporated into new textiles in manufacturing

  23. I can't say I've ever used a traditional razer, with electric shavers so widely available and cheap there just isn't a reason not to use one, unless you prefer it of course. My current model is a Philips PQ203 which I've had for over two years and it still works like brand new. Good to see that Philips can still get some things right!!

  24. It could simply be that the battery has reached the end of its life now. Going flat can damage a battery permanently, and severely shorten its lifespan. I would have the battery tested if it is still under warranty, but otherwise the best bet is just to replace it and see if it happens again with a new one.

  26. Maybe the car battery is dead & its in double deadlock mode.but should still unlock single door .try getting in thru boot & open doors manually. Atleast you will know if in double deadlock mode or not. Open bonnet & see if battery is dead or not. Charge it up if so. These are just himts . Hope u get it sorted mate. 29. I hope everyone has a great day. We're not really doing anything at all this year, except having a roast dinner which will of course be good. After the year it has been so far, neither of us are in the mood for celebrations or being happy at all really. Lets hope 2017 is better...

  33. We managed to fix it, we drilled the damaged wire out of the existing terminal, stripped the wire down a bit, put it in then soldered it in place, cars starting fine again :) Was a little suprise the RAC bloke didn't spot it, that being said it's 2 days before christmas I imagine he's a bit manic and isn't paying as close attention as he usually would. Thanks for the help though guys, still learning all this mechanics stuff getting there slowly :)
