My Focus is a general workhorse. I carry anything and everything in it, but when I was doing some dry lining at a house this year, I was stuck for a way to transport 8x4 sheets of plasterboard from the Builders Merchant to where I am working. The solution then came to me when I was looking at one of the large pallets used to carry the plaster boards on lorries from the board manufacturers to the Builders Merchants. I decided that if I could fix one to the roof bars on my car and add some stops around the edges of the pallet to stop the boards sliding off, this would be a perfect way to transport half a dozen boards at a time - as many as I need in one go. The photo shows my contraption in operation, and it works jolly well. The pallet can be attached in about five minutes, and is also useful for transporting bulky stuff to the tip. All in all, it's a win, and I hope that passing on what I've done might help someone else out who has to transport sheets of board materials. I've used it for plywood and chipboard as well as plasterboard. Just use common sense and don't overload it and you'll be fine. David2 points

Personally I would not bother. Diesel engines like the old 1.8 TDCI are designed for fuel economy and not for racing. You can consider a remap but this will not give you the power output you want. Superchips for example lists a increas of 21 HP and 46 Nm for this type of engine. It is of course possible to achieve a higher power output but this will require a lot of technical/mechanical modifications. For example a bigger Turbo (or even TwinTurbo) bigger fuel injectors, custom made/reinforced engine internals, modified cilinder head, etc. The biggest limitation will basically be the content of your wallet. In my opinion it will be much cheaper to buy an old ST170 than upgrading a 1.8 TDCI.2 points

Ooh your poor car! I just pay the few quid for delivery if i cant fit it in the boot. Usually get it dropped off for free though for being a good customer! I think someone might be overfilling your fuel tank!2 points

Hi, i have a facelifted Fiesta Titanium EcoBoost 125 from Denmark, but since there isn't much of a scene here you guys might be able to help me out. I've started to commute in the car, but that wasn't planned so I didn't buy CC unfortunately. The dealer can install an aftermarket CC using the original buttons, but I prefer the original CC. Is that possible to retrofit? I've seen plenty of success stories with the pre facelift version, but none with the current facelifted model. Secondly, the ESP got in my way quite a bit during the winter so I would love to have the "ESP" button (as seen on an ST) next to the Auto Start/Stop button. Originally the dealer said it couldn't be done, but that guy also claimed that the fiesta wasn't born with CC and confused an ST with an RS, so I'm not sure he knows much about the car. Can that button be installed? I can get the ST part, but if there isn't any wiring or the ECU doesn't support it I might as well save the money. Sent from my iPad using Ford OC1 point

Handling in the corners has definitely improved like a lot. Can really feel the difference when turning into corners. road noise I haven't noticed anything I didn't before, and cabin noise I had a rattle before I got it lowered and it has definitely made it worse but nothing I can do about that. The rear dimming mirror has two light sensors, one front, one back. It measures the light difference between what's behind and infront of you to judge if it should dim. Is your dash cam screen in view of the front facing sensor? Might have messed it up if it was going on and off.1 point

depending on your dash cam it might have a voltage droop cut off which may explain the camera going on and off. as for the rear view mirror not dimming that's controlled by GEM itself so perhaps it also has some kinda of voltage protection circuit, if GEM detects low voltage maybe it shuts off certain things? as for why its droping so much with the engine on, that's not so good, you would expect any cut off to be at Round 12v, so if it hitting that level when the engines on... Forscan (or multi meter) it and see whats up, pretty sure ELMconfig will show you the voltage for each module as well1 point

i have this in silver and have fitted reverse camera great addition to the reverse sensors i bought the led number plate lights and mounted camera on one side and doesn't effect the light at all1 point

to be honest Tom, any diesel car, even a modern common rail one will run on bio. The problem and the bad reputation it has comes from the use of poor quality biodiesel that is not fully converted from the starting oil (cooking oil) and is not properly tested and purified after the process. I've never had a problem and the car goes a treat. Believe you me, she pulls some heavy loads and carries everything from plaster, rubble, wood and garden waste to the drums of used cooking oil people give me for my fuel process. David1 point

It's changing for 2017. No longer just a visual test, if you've got a 'friendly' tester who'll pass anything it'll probably still pass but if not no chance. I've got the older 110bhp 1.6, simple stage 1 remapped to 140bhp for over a year now, no stupid air filter or anything extra lol.1 point

If the water is coming from the washer jets just remove them, clean the area on the bonnet that they're situated in then put a light covering of silicon sealant on the underside of the washer jet then reseat them on the bonnet (clean off any excess silicon). To make 100% sure mine were sealed I also put silicon on the underside area from inside the bonnet.1 point

It's actually slight over spillage of biodiesel which I make myself and use to fuel the car. It's done over 200,000 miles and is a real workhorse. I do clean it off occasionally with a solvent, but it always gets like it after a while. When I do clean the car, the old girl comes up well.1 point

Have a closer look at the springs, 99% of the time they break part of a coil off and it disappears, you'll see a sharp edge to the Spring.1 point

I think Alex is correct, although Ford (and others) call the keyless entry keys "passive keys". It looks like they are woken up by a quite powerful low frequency transmission, 125kHz has been mentioned, which is detected passively, no battery power needed. When the key is woken up like this, it communicates in the 433MHz ISM band with the car to supply the needed security codes. This phase needs the battery. This makes sense. 433Mhz receivers and transmitters both consume a lot of power to operate, and would flatten a little key fob battery very quickly if used continuously, even on a very low duty cycle. The LF wake-up signal avoids this problem, and could have a reasonable range of 1-2 metres. Most key systems operate in the unlicensed ISM bands, 433MHz & 915MHz bands usually.1 point

Technically the TPMS system can be deactivated without any problems. The TPMS system can easily be deactivated in the Central Car Configuration using a suitable diagnostic system. For example the Ford IDS/FRDS system or a simple ELM327 interface combined with the FoCCCus or Forscan software. Be aware that deactivating the TPMS system makes the car no longer apply to the European Vehicle type approval. European regulations require cars that are registered after November 2014 to have a tyre deflation detection system. A MOT failure should be the least of your concerns. In case of an accident the deactivated TPMS system can be a reason for the insurance company not to pay a penny. Personally I would just install TPMS sensors. 4 new TPMS sensors including installation will cost less than €200,-. This is in my opinion not worth any possible future MOT or insurance problems.1 point

Good luck with the crappy tint lol. I bought like 4m of it for £20 from there and it didn't shrink at all. The two side windows are dead easy as they are relatively flat, but that back window really does take some skill1 point

Lol, it's the best way tbh. :biggrin: I get to spell my name right (something that's apparently impossible for anyone else) and the postal service and DVLA can't lose it! Plus you get the new V5 in 2 or 3 days usually, might be a bit longer at this time of year though. Just have to be careful that you make sure you're the seller lol, otherwise it doesn't let you do it.1 point
