  1. Need to make sure it wouldn't fly out in a rollover of you haven't already, as this is when you're most likely to need to cut your seat belt

  2. I get the whole aftermarket/stock argument, having been 100% aftermarket before my mk2.5, but I just like the stock look, and mine had dab and bluetooth, and the sound wasn't particularly bad. But admittedly if you need to wire a DAB aerial in, I appreciate the extra effort involved - I've just added a new DAB aerial to my mk3 because the reception was terrible!

  3. Yes it can straight swap And if the new Sony has DAB then you would need an extra aerial for that function to work but everything else will function without any issue.

  4. Also I now have to change the radio as I believe it might be faulty. All four speaker's stopped working a while back, only the two tweeters in the front doors were working. Yesterday I actually went to have some new ones installed in Halfords and on the way there they all started working again, rather fortunately! This morning I have got in the car and it's only the tweeters working again so I'm assuming that my Ford cd6000 has some kind of fault on it, or could there be another reason other than the head unit itself?
    2 points
  5. So the main question now is can a standard Ford cd6000 be directly replaced by the correct version of the standard Ford Sony head unit with no wiring or fascia adapters needed? A like for like swap. Does anybody know the definitive answer?

  6. It is simple enough; you just need the newer surround aswell as two plastic clips which provide the screw sockets. The DAB also uses an additional aerial; the Ford DAB aerial is inside the driver's side wing mirror if fitted

  7. Yes, but you can't trust the seller is telling the truth when there saying it's from a focus, You must see the headunit part number on the left side; and search it on Google to find out of its from a focus or not this one here is a part number from a mondeo Aside from this in my own opinion mate your most likely spending around 200 pounds on old technology which has very limited ability, if you were to go for an aftermarket headunit you would have more technology for the same money such as Bluetooth capabilities and mp3. The factory Sony's aren't as good as an aftermarket to be honest.

  15. Do you have long skinny fingers? I managed fine without removing anything mate. Just attach the screw to the badge, feed the plate through the grille and onto the screw. Then pinch the nut with two of your fingers and align it with the screw. Then just keep turning the s badge until the nut tightens enough. Was fiddly to be fair but I managed fine without removing anything

  16. Wanted to say thanks to all who have posted here, I have managed to get navigation working :). I initially ran into some trouble but solved it with the dropbox syncmyride file posted here. I did the .png license hack, but I would appreciate it if somebody could help me out with a proper license file.

  18. Had my 1.6TDCI for 9 years. I reckon I saw the glowplug light come on only about 10 times each year and then only for a second or two. The glowplugs work even when the light is not on, the light just means wait for them to heat the cylinder a bit before you turn the key. They continue to heat after the light has gone off, and even if the light does not come on at all when starting from cold. I have heard of them snapping off when trying to get out, and I think they are hard to get to. My brother now owns my 1.6tdci and it is doing what yours does, but he has no intention of doing anything about it until the point that it stops the car from starting (and that might never happen). If I still had the car I would do the same as him. Some jobs can turn into a job that goes wrong and you wish you never started and end up worse off then if you left it alone. I am not reccomending what you do, just giving you something to think about

  19. @Madzook2514, you will need to purchase the camera module from some clever russians! cost me about $100 with shipping. Link is http://pro-ford.com/focus/ford-focus-3/sistemy-bezopasnosti-ohrany-i-pomoschi/kamery-zadnego-vida-i-ekrany/neoriginalnyy-modul-kamery-ekrana-mfd5/?currency=USD once it arrives you will need to wire it into the canbus system near the passenger side of the console, i can help with the details. you will also need a special cable to activate the camera in the cars configuration. cheaply obtained from ebay and software focccus is free. anything else you need feel free to ask.

  20. Had my both rear discs and pads changed today under warranty. Garage did say they were in a bad condition.
    1 point
  21. No. These are relatively low compression engines and compared to other diesels and compared to some others the engine/ambient temperature need to be relatively cool before they activate. Quite clever.

  24. Hi Greald. Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I like to look after my cars & want the service book to show that. I have started another thread, asking for recommendations on trustworthy Ford servicing garages near to where I live. I've only been here a couple of months, so don't know the area that well yet. There is a big Ford main dealership just up the road, but after googling reviews, they didn't fair very well. Chris.

  25. Good point, but I was under the impression you could fairly easily retrofit the oval 2.5's into the 2?

  26. The MK2 pre-facelift Sony head units weren't DAB. This was introduced with the newer head units if I recall.

  27. and look for the DAB Digital Radio logo on the front too.

  28. Get it done. Certain items degrade nicely with time as well as mileage. A lotn of the service is visual inspection of safety critical items, so you want someone with half a braincell to eyeball the brakes and steering while it's in the air.

  33. Yes that's 100% correct The only thing you need to watch out for when purchasing a ford Sony headunit on eBay or anywhere second hand is to make sure it came from a Ford Focus because the identical ford Sony headunit is also fitted to the mk3 mondeo and although it is identical on the outside and it will fit the focus the software inside is different meaning the sound won't be correct as the outputs differ; I've experienced all of this in the past. The only way to be sure is to obtain the part number of the headunit and Google it to find out if it's from focus or mondeo. There are 6CD changer models also available in Ford Sony which take in 6 CD's within the headunit itself no extra box in the boot or gl ovebox all fit inside the headunit, I had one of those myself but it was from a mondeo.

  34. As your car is 2013 John then you can safely remove your battery as your radio doesn't have a code :)

  35. I'd stick with the Ford bars on a Mk3 or newer Focus. These can be had for around £125 from an official Ford dealer via eBay. There are reports of bars causing roof rail damage i.e. scratches or dents so follow mounting instruction closely. I use the Traxer box for camping and it doubles the boot space easy. I keep heavy and wide stuff in the boot and the rest in the box and don't even know it's on as there's little noise. The size of the box is ideal because I can also carry my bike on the bars as well.

  36. Chances are they'd laugh in your face if you even suggested it. Either leave the warranty, or leave the modifications Or if you've paid for the warranty, modify accepting the fact that it's now void Who is the warranty with?

  37. Cheers pal, I'll see if I can locate the mounting. 🤞

  40. I'll have a look on microcat tomorrow to see if I can find a part number. I found these, which look the right thing though, but never used the website before so couldn't tell you how accurate the information is or if they're trustworthy enough to put your bank details into. https://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fiesta_steering_rack_limiter_kit_f_1573895_c_416.htm

  41. That's work and parts you could be changing for no reason.. Your easiest best is to actually diagnose it. I've spent £200 on driveshafts, gearbox oil, brake sliders and other bits and pieces to get rid of a knock. Turns out the engine mount had been left loose when I changed my engine hence a FREE fix. Wish I'd taken the time to diagnose it

  42. So that's at least 15 cars/ engines And two people have had issues which weren't their own fault And I'm sure there's alot more members without problems It really is luck of the draw, but for the most part you're gonna be fine.

  43. Hi Thanks for the reply, But I was reading up about the 150 vs the 180 and there appears to be very little in performance difference. Big difference in cost though.

  44. Went out to the car this morning without doing anything to it and the clutch is working perfect - Will drive it for a few mile to see if it fails again which I'm predicting it will Going to order up a clutch master cylinder and fit that to see if it cures the problem

  45. Thanks mate. I feel that blocked breathers (not uncommon) is the issue here. A broken piston ring is extremely unlikely as this would result in (i) MoT failure on emissions - the car has just passed its MoT last week with perfect emissions (ii) Rough running - the car runs sweet as a nut (iii) Loss of power - there's no loss of power (iv) Burning oil - the car does not burn oil.Basically someone is trying to rip me off; they said they had completed a compression test on the car, then when I asked them to service my other Mondeo, which is again a 2.5 V6 (exactly the same engine) they asked me to find out how to remove the spark plugs "...as it looks complicated"!! Mm....then how did you do the compression test on my other V6 Mondy??There are also other jobs they have said they have done which they clearly haven't. What makes this worse?....this person has been a "friend" for almost twenty years.
