These are of a 1.6 TDCI which has 278 mm brakes. The brake diameter (in this case 278 mm) is also casted on the caliper brackets.2 points

I've gone with AutoAid this year, £48 Nationwide recovery & Home start (essential when you're a DIY mechanic on your local street). Had to use them as well (when the EGR shut down completely 😄 ) . No complaints!1 point

Not a massive update today but new lights all round, ceuk led dipped and fogs alone with hi beam and chrome indicators but going to get the same super bright led indicators as I had on the RS also changed the number plate lights, all interior lights, fitted a Tune+ oil breather oil cap same as the rs one I had to stop crankcase pressure building and release pressure from the stock pcv system so less oil in the intake, also fitted a NB styling bonnet lifter not to happy with the bonnet gaps but will adjust when I have time done the reverse bulbs to leds as well, fitted a throttle pedal spacer so I can heal and toe again make so mad down shifts happen not really too much else to report, for both catch cans coming to fit next week some time and a short colour coded Ariel from paint modz and that’s all for now.. will see where this one takes us1 point

My car is 4 months old with a 3 year warrantee and I haven’t paid any extra for a service plan. My first service is not due until 18 months or 2 years. However, to retain my breakdown cover I have been advised that after 12 months to book it in for a basic check (not a service as such) This will cost me a small amount but they will extend the free breakdown cover for a further 12 months. From then on I will get the free cover annually after its service. As I have said you do not need to pay for any service plan to take advantage of the free breakdown cover.1 point

Thanks for the correction Tom, Only ever had one diesel, and it never went wrong, so I know nothing about them !1 point
-
The free cover through the Ford scheduled service is excellent. When I used it the AA came out and, as they couldn't fix the car, they towed it to a destination of my choice (my preferred Ford dealer, not the nearest one). As it includes cover at home and throughout Europe it would cost a lot to buy from the AA.1 point

No...you could buy another whole Mk2 for that lol. On a serious note though, I wouldn't risk a second hand 1.6TDCi engine, you have no way of knowing how much carbon is stuck inside already.1 point

On a side note, I suffered chronically with migraine from mid teens upto around 10 years ago. I was in prescription painkillers for it. I know what you sufferers are going through as it is debilitating, especially when at work. Around 10 years ago I was diagnosed with erratic blood pressure, not high all the time, but low all the time. They can't give me an answer what causes it, nor could they give me an answer what caused the migraine. Their answer to control the blood pressure was changing prescribed medication until they found a suitable solution to my problem. The crux of this is that since I have been on medication to control my erratic blood pressure, my migraines have gone..... completely vanished! The doctor told me that it is nothing to do with the medication, in most people migraine subsides with age?? Sorry for the slight off topic deviation.1 point

Speaking of my Fiesta. One year ago today (22nd May) I collected her from the dealership. I haven't done much mileage in her over the last year (2100 miles) but I still have so much fun when I do drive her. She's my lukewarm hatchback. She's not a hot hatch but she's not a slouch either. I took her back to the place where I took the first photos to commemorate the day. If the weather stays nice I might go out and take some arty shots using my new camera (yes, it finally got delivered to the store yesterday).1 point

I turned off adaptive volume which helps. It's supposed to adjust the volume with road speed but it seems to screw with the EQ too. I also have treble right down, mines about 3 positions from the left.1 point

Hi Alan, I think when you disconnect the battery you have to reset the windows. This page is for a Mondeo but I’d imagine it’s the same on a Focus: https://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php/One_Touch_Window_Reset Hope that helps1 point

I only play it loud when I'm out on the motorway or something, in villages and so on I turn it down to be respectful. I did LOL though!1 point

If it sounds bad, it's probably far too loud. Do people dance in the street as you go by?1 point

My local Day's dealer quoted £22 for the expansion tank and £7 for the cap. Pattern part is about £20. Going for the genuine part.1 point

I know - i usually read stories like this from other people and think i'm lucky or they have a lemon/ abuse their car - as i take care of my cars this is either a lemon or fate has played a part. I spoke to another dealer today whilst at work and he mentioned wiring looms can have breaks in the wires, not a common problem but it does happen 😞 i'm not sure how a wire can suddenly break or which part of the loom the dealer is changing? I'm worried if they change the loom behind the dash then it's a dash out job which can end up with marks to the interior (i'm really fussy so wouldn't accept this) or end up with rattles Been on to a garage tonight who has a nice looking Audi A1 S-Line for sale - 125bhp but Celtic tuning can remap it to 180bhp 🙂1 point

I can't see a thing down the back, but I can get one hand down to it, and on these modern(ish) cars I have to get used to doing most jobs by feel, it seems! There is a box with fins on it, the actuator I assume, with a crank coming out of it and a connecting arm almost vertically down to the turbo. When I first felt it, the crank was up. Turning on the ignition it moved down, but then stayed down when I turned the ign off (no engine start). When I turned it off before the engine was hot and running, so I assume that is the difference. There is a few degrees of slack in the actuator crank, and a little play in the connecting arm, in both states, but the crank will not move more than that slack (I did not try any force!) with ign on or off. So the vanes feel quite free moving (by the tiny amount I can test) at both ends of the travel. Also, with ign on, when I tried to turn the crank in either direction, there was a whine from the actuator that sounded like it was powering up to resist the movement. There is also a continuous whine at a higher frequency from the EGR, so ignore that. The EGR actuator is very easy to remove, but the valve itself is a real pig as it is part of the inlet manifold. Also it should be possible to blank the EGR on these cars with no error messages or DTCs, I have done it several times. I now have it unblanked, as I have a working EGR actuator, and the ECU seems to prefer that, with maybe a little better MPG. But your symptoms don't really match any of the many EGR related faults I have had. I have logs of live data for my car, for things including APP, RPM, MAP, MAF, EGR, FRP etc. Ie most of the main engine variables. So some comparison of, for example when the MAP starts to rise, may be possible. My turbo comes in in a very progressive way, from really very low engine power, going up to about 2.5Bar abs at max power. No sudden "boost" point at all.1 point

I don't like that I'm becoming a grumpy old git (at age 41). I found myself thinking that a disproportionate number of people (mostly, but not exclusively, other drivers) were complete morons on the drive home this afternoon...1 point
-
It's much easier to check on the Mondeo engines with the turbo being on top, this video should give you a rough idea. It should start just at the actuator movement but if you've time to watch the whole thing it shows how to manually test the vanes towards the beginning as well as a cheap bodge for sticky vanes...I know how much you like cheap fixes!1 point

Aha!!! hold on there!! Dave!! it seems you hit the nail on the head, so I give a short story of "inter-cooler", Months ago while i was trying to park the car, I hit a high kerb and plastic front of cooler has dislocated, I removed it and put into boot, very long time I have been driving around without front Cover, just couple weeks ago, I have done a service on the car changing filters and oils, I still had whistling noise then but did not try to repair it, what I noticed, driver side of "inter-cooler" hose and part of cooler was oily-greasy with dirt, I have washed it with hot water and cleaned it nicely.... But I have not thought anything of it till I have read your answer, as you mention in your reply, it could the reason... I am writing this without checking on it yet, if it is the problem then you will be a God send to be Dear Dave, if it is even not the one, I still thank you very much for your time answering my question....I will report back once I do a check on it, thanks1 point

Just find yourself a scrap car that has the correct caliper brackets. The 300 front disc brakes are used on the 1.8 TDCI and 2.0 TDCI diesel engines and 2.0 Duratec HE petrol engine. There are plenty of these vehicles scrapped these days. New caliper brackets are only available from Ford and cost a small fortune (over €200,- a piece). There are cheap (Chinese) aftermarket replacements but I would not recommend to use these because of the (very) poor quality. Also be aware that the 300 mm front disc brakes always must be combined with 280 mm rear disc brakes. Combining the 300 mm front disc brakes with 265 mm rear disc brakes or even drum brakes will result in a disturbed front/rear brake balance and make the car unstable during hard braking. Definetely not what you want in a critical situation. The Focus MK2/MK2.5 Brake Control Module does not have any configurable brake size settings. The front/rear brake balance is preconfigured in the Brake Control module software and can not be changed. You can install bigger front brakes without any problem as long as they are combined with the corresponding rear brakes.1 point

I had similar on my old 2005 focus when one of the rubbers at the rear of the exhaust was snapped. It gave the whole exhaust system enough play to knock loudly towards the front of the car.1 point

Evan's Halshaw Hull West (Ford). They collected ours again from work, took it for the yearly health check and brought it back 4 or 5 hours later with a piece of Ford headed paper with the breakdown details etc for the second year showing the car is covered. As said previously when they collect ours from the Mrs work, they always leave a car and insure her on it just incase as they have her documents (licence copy) on file.1 point
