  1. As per title. Any of you made an impulsive (cheap) car purchase before? A purchase where you already have a solid 'daily' car, but longed to buy something 'different' (e.g. convertible, track car, 90's sports coupe, an import etc.) Say off eBay, Gumtree, or FB marketplace... How did it go?

  3. Do like decanting the rasberry Vodka and blackberry vodka I had infusing in kilner jars won't fit in the empty vodka bottles. Got quite a bit left over of each . Probably a pint or so . Oh well , I had better not waste it. Unfortunately I found a 3/4 bottle of imitation Cointreau I thought I could use, so currently getting through that first. Could have a thick head in the morning!!

  4. I do like that the wheel I replaced just sold on ebay for £81. Seems reasonable - he got a used wheel with some touched-up damage for half the price of a new one, and I got a brand new wheel instead of a refurb for the same (net) amount

  6. I am looking for info on the parts needed for putting 278mm discs on the front. I managed to get some nice drilled and grooved ones with some st150 calipers, problem is the calipers dont fit even with the carriers which have the smaller hole. I have read the post where people say you can drill them out but my thinking was getting the later st180 caliper, same shape as my originals but then i guess i need to find carriers. I have trolled the net looking for info but in truth it seems like there are so many different variations that it all gets a little confusing. Has anybody done the conversion? this time i need to get the correct set up and fit it, the joys of tinkering ,lol

  7. You could always hold on to it and buy a second car Zain? 😁 I saw a 1996 Camaro on FB marketplace whilst I was aimlessly browsing the net (as I often fall into the trap of doing!)... Was quite tempted... Stock pic (taken from wiki) below... Now I'm picturing myself driving it around with a spiky gelled hair, wearing dark denim, and blasting out punk rock 😄 OK, daydreaming over! Would have also given me a chance to perhaps work on it as a fixer-upper, and gain experience as a DIY mechanic... Also saw some nice old Lexus on there, and a Honda Prelude 2.0 manual 😎 I guess most people on here haven't been impulsive and pulled the trigger on such a car, but also post up any interesting finds you see!

  8. It should have done as an error message was shown. It will need something Ford specific to read it, a generic reader is unlikely to pick it up. Something like Forscan should if it supports the mk4.

  9. It should have logged a fault. I’d get it back to your dealer to investigate.

  10. Condensation needs damp air and a lack of ventilation - so you need to identify where it is coming from: 1. Is it residue from wet feet etc? that is not drying out in normal use - use your demister more or crack a window open when driving to force out the damp air 2. Is there a leak somewhere? - feel around UNDER the carpets - do they feel damp or is there any evidence of water pooling or excessive rusting in the lower parts of the floor pan? 3. Examine windscreen, window and door seals very carefully to see if any have failed - you should be able to see tracking marks if water is regularly getting in somewhere, it can often discolour interior trim 4. Check around grommets and cable seals where they pass through from outside - especially in the bulkhead, boot and floor areas 5. Have a good old smell - damp causes mildew which will give off an odour So basically you will have to do some crawling around investigation to track down the source - if and when you find a suspect keep looking - there may be more than one on an old car - good luck with that Finally, when the cause is found - do something about it - it will only get worse

  12. Hi everyone, just want to say thanks for all your kind help with this retro fit- it's all installed and Forscan changes made- works great! I also used Forscan to activate the window global opening/closing- strangely when operated by the remote- both windows open- but when locking, only the passenger window shuts- the drivers window remains fully down.... 14. Was running on 2 cylinders and traced the fault back to the injector harness, as Tom said though mine is a 3 cylinder petrol 1.0. Coolant hoses are exactly how Tom explains. Yep I have checked the boot for leaks after seeing the posts on here about it but even after lots of heavy rain my spare tire well is dry lucky for me! (touching more wood lol). Sorry I failed to read that yours is a diesel.

  17. If water was getting in to the electronics or one of the big multi-pin connectors, I would expect to see a few more odd symptoms than just a failure to start. In particular, I would expect to see unexpected warning lights on the dash, or the immobiliser LED flashing rapidly while trying to start. Running a decent diagnostic system like Forscan would reveal if there was a lot of odd hidden error codes. Though it can be misleading as low battery or bad earths will also upset the electronics and generate all sorts of error codes. So I would eliminate voltage problems (battery & main wiring) before investigating deeper. Damp can accelerate the effects of bad connections by increasing corrosion though, so there is a possible link there.

  19. Dell XPS8930 intel i7 9th Gen with Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Graphics and Windows 10 Pro arrived today 😛 All Dell items except for cables and two Legrand items under the name C2G; and a 2M Duronic Cat7 RJ45 cable. Overall Total Savings €192.02 compared to putting everything in to the one basket on the Dell Website and it all arrives just the same way. I've some more detailed links previously documented here: https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/67740-things-i-do-like/?do=findComment&comment=790560 Saved €76.00 Purchasing the Dell P2415Q Monitor & Dell AC511M Sound Bar from LaptopsDirect instead of directly from dell 🤷‍♂️ strange that one. Saved €47.31 on the C2G USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter to allow the television display the computer; by purchasing from Amazon instead of directly from Dell. 28. Couple a weeks ago i got OBD II fault code P0132 and afterwards P0030 in my Ford Fiesta 2004, 1.4 mk5. Found out that my H02S bank 1 sensor 1 had a defected heater element and was burned up. I changed the whole sensor with an unoriginal one, was told it should fit to a Ford Focus made in similar years so i thought it would be correct. 4 days after I changed the sensor I got a new fault code. P0130 malfunction bank 1 sensor 1. It takes some time from when I start the engine before it comes in. Could it be that its wrong calibrated or just dosent fit the car? The power to the sensor is 0.52 V and its 1.3 Ohms in the sensor. Though it sounded pretty correctly. Have also changed the spark plugs and air-filter. Any ideas? Thank you! Henrik

  29. That's my experience too. They seem reluctant to do that. I use a small Ford dealer where you can actually talk to the technician and I had a long chat with him about updates that were showing as available on ETIS for my car. According to him, Fords policy is not to update modules unless there the vehicle actually has a related fault. So the dealers are also reluctant to do uneccesary updates in case it causes other problems which they then have to fix at their cost. In my case I was able to review the available updates with the technician and agree which ones we thought would be worthwhile. Having said that, on a car which is showing problems, you would have thought that doing all the updates is a good idea!

  30. Hi, Obviously you need to get the car back in to check the keyless system. My experience of MK4s is that they are not updating all the modules at PDI and MK4s are tending to suffer with software glitches (typical Ford) You may have some sort of current drain going on, though again it could be software related. You can update the SYNC3 system yourself by following the instructions on the Ford website (search Ford Sync 3 update UK). Get the dealer to update every module that requires it and your problems should disappear. Are you driving in Sport mode? Stop/Start deactivates in sport mode

  31. I had the same problem with the windows 'bouncing back' after the car had been for a software update to the PCM. The procedure I found to reset it was, after its bounced back , immediately use the one-touch up button, repeat this and on the the third attempt the system is reset and the window closes properly.

  34. Just a reminder that there is a Ford online parts catalogue (all models) at eucatparts.com Lots of exploded diagrams, part nos and info. Apologies for boring the knowledgeable but hope this will be of interest to newer members. David G, Fusion66 P.S. As some Fiestas are the same as Fusions it is worth checking that forum for info. I have left postings with pictures on changing front springs and making a special tool for dismantling the suspension units.

  35. Apologies first of all, as I'm sure you're all as fed up with this subject as I am, but came up with this question while out walking with a mate the other day. We know that you need to get 5% of the vote to retain your deposit, so if only 100 voted in a constituency and you got 5 votes, you'd keep your deposit. But if in that situation, you got 51 votes out of 100, presumably you'd win the seat under the "first past the post"system. What set us thinking was that a newspaper columnist suggested they were all as bad as each other, so the electorate ought to go on strike, and nobody vote. But in reality somebody would, even if it was just party activists in each constituency, so we wondered if there was a minimum number of votes needed to win a seat, or if the simple majority rule still applies, irrespective of how few votes are cast. As far as I can see, it does - anyone know any different?
