  2. This morning taking the other half out for some retail therapy, my TPMS alarm alerted me that my rear passenger tire was in trouble, it had lost 5 pounds in 3 miles. So, I dropped her off at a shop, then drove 300yds to a known independent standalone tire shop. Disappointed to see a few cars in front of me, but after just 5 minutes, the guy waved me in front, I got out of the car as he was pushing the jack up trolley to the appropriate tire. I said I hadn't even told him what was wrong yet, he pointed to my tire and said, you have a puncture, right? I looked at the tire and it was pretty much flat. He worked his magic with the soapy water, then walked towards me. Here we go I thought, he'll be suggesting a new tire now. But, he told me it was the valve stem, and showed me the fault. The darn thing had totally split at the base! Could have been the original 16 year old one! Anyway, 5 minutes later I was driving back out - total cost, £5, yep, I like repairs like that!

  4. So made my first journey in the snow on the CC2 and I'm really impressed. Stranded cars littered the route but the fiesta confidently climbed every hill. Hill starts were also no problem. Descending hills was also very good.

  6. First of all indicating when changing lanes is a matter of lifelong habit, surely (is for me anyway). YOu can use the system menu (the thing on the steering wheel) to decide the level of assistance required. And yes, I certainly wouldn't want to have to overcome resistance - any lelel of resistance - to my manouvres, even the warning panels give a momentary distraction at the exact time when it is most inappropriate! Drifting across lanes on m'way - I do this if there's summat going on on the hard shoulder up ahead, as long as its clear, matter of habit. Well, not across exactly, but to the extremity of the lane I'm in .

  7. Here there are two options, a service with or without roadside assistance. The difference in price is €27. In the past I have looked at getting repairs done at non-Ford garages, in almost all cases the cost was the same or not much cheaper to justify what was a worse "patch up". In a few cases it was more than twice the price. My local For dealer seems to (for now) offer very cheap and high quality repairs, that said getting appointments is slow and they are not always the most organised.

  9. its designed to sell new cars 1) cheaper insurance as its "safer" 2) causes crashes so you need another one In a thorough review, most women do not feel able to override the assistance and just crash Much the same thinking is applied to those that like and believe start stop helps - help ruin the engine so they can sell another one is the ONLY reason its on the car just like this dangerous safety feature the post is about . Its like watching all these "Police going for coffee with the car thieves" TV programmes. A bloke has scratched his bumper, so along come the fire brigade to cut the roof off and we wonder why the planet is dead...

  10. It's probably just an air lock in the heater matrix. Put the heater on full wack and hold the engine revs at around 3000 rpm for a few seconds. It should "burp" out as the water pump will spin faster.

  11. Took my car for it's 2nd year service today to our dealer. Was told that Ford are no longer offering any breakdown or recovery with a service. The service was a lower price due to this. We asked about the wife's car as it will be due it's first year health check in December/January which we have to give a further year Ford Recovery but we're told not to bother if we only did it for this reason. It doesn't have to have a health check for warranty purposes so we won't be having it done. Crux of this is Ford are no longer providing breakdown for new vehicles. Not sure if this is also true for the 1st 12 months though, just year 2 and 3 from new.

  12. Isn't this just utterly ridiculous? A vital safety feature disabled when surely the alternator must have the capacity to power it and still have some reserve to charge the battery. What are they thinking?

  14. I do like the heated steering wheel on the EcoSport! 😀 Thought it was a bit of a gimmick but bit chilly up here today and thought I would try it. Lovely and toasty, even encouraged me to drive with both hands on the wheel as the gearstick, usual resting place for my left hand, was freezing!

  16. Not sure how they would know this given the short time the Covid vaccines have been in use. Anyway, like @JImpster I already had a heart issue but I can't say I'm worried about it.

  18. Hello Ray, I suspect that your Ecoboost engine is doomed to fail, sooner rather than later. The vehicle is almost 10 years old and I assume the wet belts have not been replaced. When you had the previous trouble with the oil pump strainer becoming blocked, it would have been with bits of the wet belt as they disintegrate. The little bits of rubber and fabric get everywhere and whilst the original issue of a blocked oil pick-up strainer has been fixed, I suspect that some of the small oil ways and oil channels may be blocked with bits of debris, and hence no oil to the turbo. Which ever way you go from here you are looking at some major expense. You already need a new turbo and the problem with no oil feed and investigated. On top of that if the wet belts have to be replaced you can add another £1200 to £1400. The potential damage that has probably already been caused to the engine by oil starvation would make me think that its not worth trying to save it. A brand new ecoboost engine from Ford is £2500 and about 8 to 10 ours work to fit, so probably another £1400 in labour costs. There is no easy fix to your problem.

  21. That all sounds a bit odd to me? They can't have just accidentally deleted something. When you say accessed a menu with the steering wheel buttons, if you press and hold the ok button on the steering wheel then press the start button, it will go into the test menu. Is that the same menu they put it in? There isn't anything that can be added that way either so like I first said, all sounds a bit odd to me!

  28. No. Ford's easyfuel system means there's no cap to screw on at all.

  29. Hi Sharon, so if the ground connection is good on both sides then it is reasonable to suspect that there is no 12V positive getting to the lamp when the indicators are on. The supply and control for the indicators comes from the BCM (body control module) which is part of the fusebox located behind the glovebox. On some models there is an issue with water ingress in to the connectors of the BCM causing corrosion of the pins in the plugs and sockets. Disconnect the negative lead of the battery before checking but you need to remove all the connectors from the BCM and check for signs of water and/or greenish corrosion of the pins.

  30. Can't take the roof off the GT6, which makes it a bit pointless (this is why I prefer the MX5 to any hot hatch or coupe) It was about putting a spare in the boot of a MK4 Focus - please refer to my post of Nov `13 to see how I did it!

  31. Hi Chrissy, that's normal for an older type diesel. They don't run as hot and take longer to reach normal temp which if I remember correctly is about 90C just short of the half way point on the gauge.

  34. Hi. People tend to make the comments about the 1.0 EcoBoost engines as they did have a reputation of being unreliable but in reality if you do the correct preventative maintenance such as servicing the engine at regular intervals (7000-8000 miles) and make sure to regularly check the coolant level in the expansion bottle there isn't many reasons for the engine to fail. I have a 1.0 as well on a '15 plate and when I got it it was on 49,000 miles now I've just passed 60,000 only owning the car a year. Maintenance is key with these engines as it has won a couple of awards of being best 1.0 engine and so on. I have personally seen 1.0s with just under 87,000 miles if i remember correctly. If the car has been ragged about like most Fiestas with the 1.0 are then there are going to be stories about them failing but it doesn't mean you can't push the engine as long as you don't hold it on high revs for too long. Hope this helps.

  35. I've had a pre-facelift on order for around 6 months although I believe the dealer had the car on order since March/April and simply modified it to my required spec. The original delivery date was October, then pushed backed to December. I've now been told (2 weeks ago) that Ford are no longer going to be building the pre-facelift and all orders are now the face-lift model. The dealer has said they have no idea when mine will be built, only saying they may know more in January once Ford swap over the production line to the facelift model. They have suggested March/April for delivery but I won't hold my breath. It also looks like I will end up paying more for a slightly lower spec'ed model due to Ford changing the available build options for the new model. I design electronic boards for the company I work for and know the situation well regarding the semi-conductor shortage...it is a serious situation, we can't get our boards made because of long component lead times with many being on over 12 months. Designing new boards is extremely frustrating at the moment, but all we can do is wait and hope the situation gets better soon.
