mjt
I want to raise both rear wheels together to work on the brakes but I can't see how I can jack the back end up and put axle stands under. On my Rover I'm allowed to put the jack under the towing eyes, both of which are on the centre line, to raise the entire front or back end leaving the sill jacking points free for axle stands for extra security but on the rear of the Focus only the sill jacking points can be used so it's impossible to jack up then put the axle stands under. How do other Focus owners get around this problem? Incidentally the jacking points on the Focus sills don't seem to be very robust. On mine they've been bent by trolley jacks put under them by garages and tyre depots, cracking the paint and sealant off. I've made up a slotted wooden pad for my trolley jack to protect the sill but, as I say, once I've got that in place there's nowhere to put an axle stand. jeebowhite
You can put axle stands at the thickest part of the axle, this tends to be about in line with the exhaust, other than that, you could always use ramps!
mjt
To work on the brakes I need the wheels off Anyway I've done it now. I worked on one side at a time, leaving the jack under the jacking point and putting an axle stand next to it, but bearing no weight, for extra security.
