Having a few issue with it at the mo, so thought maybe one of you guys mite have an answer.

Last nite driving home it devloped a ticking noise, which fast become a rattle before loosing all power! Got it onto the hard shoulder, opened the bonnet, then open oil filler and white smoke was coming out. About 30mins later i managed to restart it, but it ran for about 30secs then died out. AA man has been round today, and he thinks its a posible timing belt slip, as it sounds like it wants to fire, but doesnt quite do it. Is this a costly job? could i have done more damage too? New to deisel so not to sure.

A guy from the garage up the road popped down too, and he rekoned it may be the belt that drives the pump, so the damage may not be to bad.

Is there anything else i can rule out before forking out to get this done?

thw white smoke is normal all vehicles have some smoke come out if you open the oil filler once it is warm. if 2 mechanics have said the timing has slipped then until they reset the timing and fire it up theres no real way of telling the damage but ford diesels can take a beaten and if it fired up i would not expect much if any other damage to have been done.

van is no at the garage, and his lifted the cam cover and had a look, and he rekons it all looks ok, so hopefully no damage there. they are gonna fit a new belt kits etc tomo. so hopefully all is well.
