Focus Mk1 1.6 Or 1.8

i keep hearing alot of info, some people say the 1.6 is better being a sigma engine is it? with help from yamaha, then there are people who say the 1.8 is better,

i dont want to get a 1.6 and find it isent very gutsy, i remember the 1.8 i had in one of the mondeos i have owned, was very revvy and was very quick off the mark for what it was.

any help would be much appreciated, B)

Obviously the 1.8 has more power but that is not to say the 1.6 is not up to the job, as already said do loads of motorway driving 1.8. But I'm off down south on hols 362 miles, all but 16 miles will be motorway and a bit of dual carriage way, in a 1.6 cruising at 70/75 not a problem.

I had a 1.8 Zetec prior to going to a 2.0l TD diesel, then now back in a 1.6 Zetec Climate. To be honest in everyday driving I don't see much difference between the 1.8 and the 1.6. If your young there is insurance premiums to consider, Road Tax difference, and MPG 5 mpg between the two.

I had my old Mk1 1.8 and my Mk2 1.6 on there hence my figure 27.4 /32.5 urban.......I ment to come back and alter my post but I forgot, but I did put live links to Wisebuyers spec and Gov Road Tax in my sig because we keep getting asked these type of questions.[so I hope I'm forgiven]

what you want is a 1.6 115 bhp, top speed 118 against the 112, 0-62 10.8 against 11.3secs, a more versatile engine, same RT

sounds about right to me from what i remember off the top of my head both engines are pretty reliable none more than the other the zetec-e has proved reliable the sigma engine has also proved reliable so its down to figures the 1.6 is cheaper on road tax so far doesnt mean the gov wont increase it at the mo im 200 quid a year for road tax mpg is around the same power in the 1.8 is more but the 1.6 is just as good for both motorway and town revs slightly higher on the motorway so its down to you mate whichever you want

cheers guys, looks like i have some thinking to do, im 21 but think the 1.8 is looking the one for me at the mo after all i know the engine better and id say easyer to find replacement parts etc? , thanks for the advice ;)

1.6 is just fine. I once had a MK1 and drove it for 7 years, it was so keen and capable and had no problems with engine or the fuel consumption.
