Hi all

Last week I was driving my 1995 ford escort 1.8 diesel 55 car van when it suddenly lost all power. Luckily it happened only 100 yards from the house. I pushed it home but couldn't start it. I took off the starter and had it reconditioned. I charged up the battery also. Made no difference. Still not starting. When I insert the key, the glow plug and battery lights on the dashboard light up but there's nothing from the engine. I had put on a new alternator about 2 months ago and everything was fine til last week. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

not turning over at all

Has the cambelt broken and the pistons are jammed against the valves?

"1.8 Diesel, inc TD, upto 08/89 36k or 3 years, 09/89 onwards 40k or 5 years, the tensioners and idlers MUST be replaced at the same time, valve to piston contact is inevitable, it will happen, the worst case scenario is that you will need a new head and camshaft as well as the valves as when the pistons hit they push the valves through the camshaft and knock the tappet buckets through the back of the head, repair bills of over 1k are common, you have been warned!
