Injector Leak

hey folks, im after some advice and help

basically when travelling slow, stopped or reversing i get a very strong diesel smell in the car...great! not!

anyways after i hit an animal tonight (dont know if it was a small dog or hare on the a19) i pulled over in a layby and got my torch out to look for any damage...no damage great...but then i discover the reason for the smell!

dripping diesel!!!!

so i got home, turned the engine off and opened the bonnet to take a ganders. well it looks like an injector is leaking.

how much would this be to repair on average? or how much are parts?

mind you its happened now for since i got the car back after having the air con pipes sorted for the 3rd time! so on boxing day im going to kick a kack storm up with ford and tell them they are going to fix it or shove their custom (loyal customer) up where the sun dont shine and will meet me in court to recover the costs...i believe very strongly that this is down to them as funnily enough when my air con pipes were being fixed, they coincidently found other faults then this happens...all nuts...my peugeot had a similar fate, so i wrote that mess off straight away!

sorry to rant on, its been one thing after another today and ive had it! sod xmas...bah hum bug lol

oh and merry Christmas to everyone, hope you all have a good one.

Can you post a picture of the part thats leaking? You say that there is a small cube leaking, is this near the injector? Is a cube near each injector with a rubber pipe connecting them all? If so its your leakback pipes that are leaking, which is an easy fix.

its a bit too dark to take photos, sorry.

but i looked at the pipework and the best way to describe it is to say there is 4 ends, each go to an injector and the other end goes towards the fuel filter. its a thin black, plastic/rubber pipe.

thanks

little update, i loaded my computer up and got myself onto my copy of ford ecat. i took note of the part number and rang around.

i got myself to jennings in gateshead and bought the part for £68.27 (inc vat).

for future ref the part number is: 1521487 - fixing kit

going to wait for the car to cool down and will get started on replacing. might even make a guide

Hi John

Is it the return pipe thats leaking , i had this on an escort once and brought the pipe kit from Halfrauds and cut the pipe to suit and clipped it in place or is it the actual clip part

on having the old pipework off, looking carefully, on the clips that go into the injectors have very small rubber seals.

anyways on the one that was leaking, the rubber seal has been sliced...so fuel, under pressure, was escaping. now i have replaced the whole lot there is no leak...very happy now lol

EDIT: next to buy:

- a new undershield as mine is totally gone, due to hitting a dog or hare on the A19

- a new bolt for my aircon compressor, as it has apparently gone

- a new oil clip for my intercooler

i should be getting paid about £1300 from the airforce at end of month (last pay) so will get that sorted then and depending on how much i have left i might go to the local tuners, and get a custom ECU map.

John

Glad you sorted it.

Have you done any more LED mods yet or are you all finished now?

I'm searching for a ACC live to add DRL's to my rear lights , i have some strips that i brought and never used , so once i find an ACC live at the rear of the car i'm going to try and insert the led strips and use them as DRL's :D

nah since ive started my new work place, ive had hardly any time to do anything lol

sounds cool, you might have to run a power cable from the same feed as your front DRL's. i cant think of any in the rear.

JohnH, Glad you found the issue, we were all enjoying the christmas hols and all! lol!

Glad you got it sorted, and for a very cheap price in the grand scheme of things (after labour!).

On a marginelly off topic point, congrats on getting out of the RAF (not sure theres a card for that but I will take a look ;)) are you joining the Arriva folk then? what you looking to do next...?

aii it was £68 for the pipe and labour was free...i did it lol

and thanks lol yeah im in with arriva now as a driver for now...apparently driving buses means im a professional driver...kinda scary lol since being on the road ive noticed taxi drivers pick and choose the lanes they want and undertake when ever and women/expensive car drivers never give buses room to move...their loss like, they dont seem to realise it doesnt effect my insurance claims and its not my vehicle, i will hit them lol all fun haha

Ah the old TCW.

I was II Squadron and we used to wind them up as they had Para wings and we always (not me though) swore blind they should of been pink as they didn't do a pre para course, they just went straight to their jumps course.

I forgot their nicknake (two cnuts and a wireless)

aii ive met a few of them with the wings and instantly thought "what a door knob" but without the door lol when i was in basic my instructor was one of these but he also had the red beret (from who he was attached to) but he still wore it as a norm...he was a chopper. a regiment fella knocked his head off for me. heres what happened:

3 of us got into trouble for not doing our block jobs properly, so this chopper took our berets and made us wear helmets all day. next morning, he goes to give them back, he sent the other 2 away with there berets and says to me "i accidently stood on yours and broke your cap badge so you got to wear your helmet again" anyways i go back outside and there was our regiment staff to pick us up and take us down the hill to start training and the Geordie one (local to me) says to me "john, come here i want a word" so we go to a private area and he asks why i have my helmet and so i told him...safe to say him and his mates went mad and said it was bullying...so they took it into their own hands and smashed the instructor up when no one was around...it was funny seeing this chopper with a messed up face and walking with a limp lol fair few years ago now like.

when i was in i always kept some regiment fellas as mates, especially the fellas that do the annual training...its amazing what you can get when your incharge of telephone cards out of area...ie ill give you an extra 2 if you stamp my book to say ive done the training lol made deals left right and centre all over the place lol
