Mk6 1.3 Duratec Overheating??

Hi Guys, just after some technical advise on a fault i have on my missus motor. It's a mk6 52plate Finesse 1.3 duratec with a bit of a strange overheating fault. Originally the headgasket went which i have replaced but now the thing overheats only when you drive it. You can be sat with the engine idling and the fan cuts in and out as it should with the bottom hose remaining hot/warm but as soon as you start driving it the fan cuts in, the bottom hose goes cold and when you sit again idling the fan continues to run and the bottom hose remains cold. If you then rev the engine for approx 5 seconds the bottom hose then becomes warm and the fan stops. The engine and fan then operates as they should, ie fan cuts in and out, untill you again drive it and the same thing happens. I have replaced the thermostat but the fault remains.... Any suggestions from anyone?? I have come to a scratch head moment!

It sounds like your water pump is not working.

Do you think the overheating problem may have been the cause of the head gasket going ?
