Fiesta Mk7 Display Not Turning Off?

Hi

Quick query about my new Fiesta:

I arrived home in my new Fiesta Titanium Mk7 and turned off the ignition then withdrew the key and was surprised to see that the radio display remained on (it normally turns off when I remove the key? This is unusual behaviour which I've not seen happen before.

I pressed the on/off button on the top left of the unit and the radio went off but the display remained on so I waited a few minutes and then got out, so I don't know how long the display remained on.

I've had the car since late November and this has never happened before so what's changed?

I've got a 2009 Fiesta Titanium 1.4 with Keyless entry/Start and twice I've had a similar issue where I have turned off the car and stereo, locked the car and then gone back to the car in like the space of an hour or so and it's somehow turned itself on! Any known issues and or resolutions?

Thanks,

Joe

Thanks for your reply Joe.

I've never heard of the a Fiesta radio unit turning on by itself. That's a weird issue on you car and I don't have any answers for you.

Of course you could contact Ford but you are then talking ££££'s.

With regard to my issue, no other replies from other members yet - maybe it was a 'one-off'?

tbh if never heard of this issue before, i know mine will stay lit up untill i lock the car, but its fine after that, has it just happened from no where? or has anything changed in the car recently anything else you have noticed? or any mods you have done?

Hi Daniel

Thanks for your email response.

Yes it has just starting happening but so far it's just once the other day and I've not been in the car since.

Nothing has been changed on the car, I'm very happy with it and I don't intend to do any mods because I don't think it needs any.

It's just weird because the radio was on as I arrived outside my house and turned off the ignition, withdrew the key and was about to get out of the car and I instantly thought, that's funny, the radio is still on. After about 30 seconds, it was still on so I turned off the radio using the off/on button on the top left of the unit. The radio did go off but the display remained on so I got out of the car and double locked it and went indoors.

Maybe that behaviour is the default in the settings? I.e. Radio unit to remain on when the key is removed?

I've not used the car since but I'm hoping that this behaviour is normal and I would appreciate it if any other members with 'late' 2013 Fiesta Titanium or similar, would try this out in their cars and post back with what happens when, with the radio on, they turn the ignition off and remove the key.

My previous Fiesta was a Mk7 and I had that from new on a 60 plate right up until November 26th last year and I don't recall this issue happening with that car. With the radio on, I would just remove the key and the radio & display would immediately go off.

Hmm tbh i really dont know, but if it is still happening and its a fairly new car so try the dealers show them what happens and ask them is it normal? But insist on seeing a technician not the sales guy or tea boy

I know with the current model Focus the radio stays on until you open a door and even after locking the car the screen stays on (with clock) for a few mins.

This is very similar to my Fusion. Mine though does turm off,but comes back very soon afterwards and remains on but dim.

If you come across a solution please let me know because I'm fed up with it.

Regards Siw

Mine might be different as it has the full keyless system, but after turning the engine off with the button everything (ie ignition) stays on until a door is opened at which point the radio, windows etc stop working (or if you don't get out after quite a few minutes it goes off anyway). Getting out and locking the car then turns everything off fully within a few seconds and nothing comes back on.

Hi Martyn, I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta that I bought brand new and I have to say that it is a giant piece of junk. Many different issues, but let me focus on the one you have. I also started having issues with the radio/SYNC system. I would turn the car off, remove the key, lock the door, and the radio stays on. Even my bluetooth stays connected to the SYNC sytem. This problem is very intermintent. Sometimes I can turn the radio off by pressing the radio on/off button (but bluetooth stays connected). Sometimes I can't turn the radio off and I have had the battery drain. Of course when I take the car to the dealer, they say they don't see a problem. they also tell me that it's normal for the radio to stay on for an hour after you have turned off car and locked it (I say BS to that, why doesn't it do that everytime then?). Another problem that I believe is related to this is that while I'm driving, the radio dispay will turn off and then a few seconds later the radio turns off. The bluetooth connection also turns off. I will press the radio button to turn it back on and the radio will turn on for a few minutes then turn off. I have taken the car to the dealer numerous times and they can't seem to finfd the problem. I'm currently waiting for them to receive some kind of module they say they ordered to fix this, but I think that they really don't know what is happening. FYI, I have had the double clutch replaced in the transmission 3 times so far for the jerking issue. I had the rear passenger door just open by it self while driving (thank God no one was riding in back). They replaced a failed door latch (happening all over the country by the way, same for the clutch). I can go on and on with the many more problems this POS has had. I regret the day I bought this car.

Just off hand I'd suggest rolling through the menu setting on the radio to see if there is an auto-off option. In my 2013 mk 7 the radio stays on til I open the door, which is what ford set it up to do. Do you have any bluetooth devices connected when this is happening?

I have gone thru the menus and there is no option to remove the "one hour on" mode. Besides, why would this not happen everytime? The radio stays on even after turning off the car, opening the door, locking the car. Dealer says this is normal. Dealer says that I need to press the radio button to turn off car radio. Although as I mentioned before, sometimes the radio will not turn off no matter what I do and the battery drains.

The original post says that the radio display stayed on after removing the key.

This sounds normal to me, if the radio is on it doesn't turn off until you open the door.

Even when turned off and you are in the car the display will show some information on it for a few minutes.

The display does go off when you lock the car.

I have a 2011 Fiesta Titanium Automatic 1.4 and have been using the auto lights function for over a year. Now when I switch the ignition off and lock the car the lights stay on? I then have to open the door and turn the switch to the off position and lock the door.

Any ideas please.

Derek. Lee.

Try taking the fuse out for the radio and putting it back in. I think the same fuse controls the blowers too so they might come on full blast when you remove it. My gf had the same problem on her 2010 fiesta. I did this and it was fine after that. If that doesn't fix it it might require an update via an IDS.

I too have similar issues. My wife owns a 1.0 EcoBoost (Mk7) Fiesta and is more or less identical inside to my Fiesta Zetec S. Both radios are setup exactly the same, but when my wife turns off the engine and takes out the ignition key, the radio continues to play. However, the moment she opens the door, the radio goes off. This is where mine differs because, when I open the door, the radio continues to play. This morning, I parked the car, and with the radio on, got out and locked the door. An hour later, upon returning to the car, the radio was still playing away inside. I can, however, turn it off manually, if I remember that is, but what I'd like to know is am I missing something or should I try resetting the system by removing and replacing the fuse?

I have an issue in my 59 plate fiesta zetec s where if i turn the car off with radio on it will stay on even when i lock the car and will not turn off unless i turn the ignition on then turn off the radio and then turn off the car but still the screen and the infotainment button lights stay on. Any fixes? I have tried the fuse in and out but that did not work. Please help.

Hi Afnan, the Radio/Entertainment System has many interconnected modules and supplies. It sounds like something has a got a bit screwed up. If you disconnect the battery terminal and leave it off for 20 minutes it will cause all modules to go through the re-start process when you reconnect the battery. In most cases this will fix your problem.

If there is still an issue after doing the above reset then you need to get a laptop with FORScan software and connect up to the OBDII port and see if there are any DTC's logged.
