jandk13
I have a ford focus 2001 mk1 1.8TDDI, I got my air con regassed last week and he needed to know how much gramms of gass it takes, does anyone know? And how much oil do I put in the compressor, and what type of oil is it?
Stoney871
The amount you will need is all to do with pressure and not volumes. Overpressurising the system can result in blown seals and a damaged A/C system. To be totally honest you will be able to get the system drained, tested and refilled to factory spec for £35-£50. Remember that it is an offence to knowingly allow refrigerant to release into the atmosphere, professional Aircon Engineers/Fitters will syphon off old refrigerant safely. The refrigerant is R134a Freon and you also need PAG oil for lubrication/leak location.

btmaldon
I thought it stated how many grams on a sticker on the slam panel. Think it was around 740g + or - 15g. Pressure should be between 25 and 35 psi according to the gauge I used when I topped up my own refrigerant.

Stoney871
It would appear that as a general rule of thumb the psi at the low pressure (charging port) should be the same as the ambient ait temperature (in Farenheit). Therefore it equates to C multiplied by 9, divided by 5 and adding 32 (where C is Celsius/Centrigrade). C x 9 / 5 +32 = F So if the ambient temperature is 20c then the pressure should be 68psi. I am curious though how someone who is doing the job for you has all the kit but not the knowledge to use it. Is he a professional or a mate with a can? stef123
Aircon done professionally is definitely done in weight, not pressure. Is there not a sticker under the bonnet somewhere with the figures? As above though the guy doing it surely should know.. Sorry just realised you did mention a sticker
