Heeelp I Have Blue Dye Transferred On My White Leather Seats

Anyone know how I can get it off?

The difficulty is finding a solvent that can remove the blue dye but not the color in the leather

If you get a bucket/ bowl of warm water, some soap and a soft scrubbing brush, soap (like a bar of ordinary soap) the brush and dip it in the warm water (so that its wet but not soaking/ dripping) carefully scrub small areas of the affected area (without being so hard that you might damage the leather) then wipe it with a clean, dry, towel

Take your time and keep checking the color of the leather, you should be able to tell if its working as the bluy color should fade, if it dous not seem to be working, dont scrub too hard as you may damage the leather (the brush has to have the right hardness of bristles, too hard and the bristles scratch/ scuff the leather, far too soft and it wont work/ you might hit/ scrape the hard part of the brush on the leather, you want something you could run along your arm without scratching yourself badly (as a guide) as small bathroom nail brush rather than a traditional scrubbing brush )

Even with just the soap it can fade the leather a little

If that does not work take it to pros,(the right pros) as any kind of solvent you put on it may ruin the leather on your seats, if you must do it yourself find a small, hidden area (like under the seat) to try the solvent on, treat it and leave it overningt to see if it damages it - you can get leather cleaner and various other products from outlets - remember these products can be expensive and you might as well pay a pro to sort it once you start "spending money"

I had this exellent leather care stuff years ago i got from a Ford main dealer valeter but i can't remember what it was called

Leather can require a lot of care, especially white leather - was it from wet blue jeans? :)

Its called tar & glue remover by valeters DONT PUT IT NEAR YOUR SEATS - it is a very strong solvent, designed to remove tar kicked up from the road from a cars paintwork/ bodywork, it is often used where it should not it is likely damage/ dis-color your seats, - dont put it near upholstery, carpets or any interior plastics - it can melt some plastics and has been known to even damage exterior plastic trim

It may be used very carefully by a pro as a last resort if nothing else works, it is liable to discolor the original seats but might be less noticeable/ preferable to the blue dye off the jeans, if it all goes wrong, dont blame me, i recommend you stick to the soap/ water and a soft-ish small brush

Could try dedicated leather upholstery cleaners - the sort you can use on your leather 3-piece suites.

Again, test on a small inconspicuous area first

Used to work with Bitumen and tar ,Never used solvents to remove it of hands or clothing as it strips the oils out of your hands or damages paintwork .

Better to use olive oil or baby oil, this softens and dissolves it then wash with warm soapy water .

Could give this a try on a small test area .

On my white leather 3 piece at home I use baby wipes and that has got the blue stain from new jeans off rather easily.

Again as mentioned above a soft nail brush is always handy because a baby wipe can't get in every little crease etc.

Just remember to change the water regularly and don't get it too wet.

Ok. That's the first thing on the list baby wipes don't help with. Although strange it worked on my sofa.

As mentioned before get a soft nail brush with warm soapy water.

If the leather is white would hydrogen peroxide be ok.

This turns everthing white pdq.

it would be a bold effort, if I was you, I would start with a diluted solution (rather week) and give it a good brush.

Try Miltons soluton, its a bit more friendly! I used it on white wallpaper when there was a mahoosive baby food stain on there, worked a treat, but never tried on leather.
