I have tried searching high and lo for this answer but can't seem to find one.

Has anyone tried fitting the econetic (from where I believe it comes from) trip display?

It's the bigger one than what's usually on the MK2.5.

Pretty sure Wilco (JW1982) did it on his MK2. As far as I know you can just swap it over. Don't quote me on that though.

Don't cars with the base (non touch-screen) sat nav also have a larger LCD display for giving turn prompts etc?

The whole cluster is paired with the specific GEM unit and PATS system in the car,

Changing of cluster unit requires ford IDS software and diagnostic software to sync the new cluster to the family.

Each individual focus has its own group,

If fitted without sync the car will start but wont rev over 1,500rpm also cuts off in 2nd gear or higher

agree with Lenny, you can do it, but unless you have access to an IDS clone, you are looking at paying dealer rates to get everything tag teaming. People on this forum have done it, it is physically possible and can be an excellent upgrade, however, the agro you go through unless you have contacts and resources to call on can mean its an expensive effort and the joy of your upgrade is killed by the bill!
