The Dark Knight
Yes we know Corsa's are awful and the ST has better seats and better everything else etc etc. But the other day at an undisclosed location on a conveniently located and deserted runway/airfield. I had a chance to take on a VXR in a drag race. It was blue and de-badged. It wasn't the nurburgring edition but sounded like he had modded it with an induction kit. Anyway, off the line he was with me all the way but once 4th gear arrived at some mph (I wasn't paying attention to the speedo), the ST pulled away from him. He was always there but could not close the gap. Superior torque of the ST me thinks.
b1g_dav3
Think the Corsa's have about 20bhp on the Fiesta's. Pieces of junk >_>
Clarky2013
I've destroyed a few vxr's with my mp215 , good stuff :P

Most likely a Ripspeed induction kit, You should become a premium member of the forum, You will get a 15% discount card for Halfords, that will annoy the hell out of your corsa mate too, As everybody knows all Corsa drivers religiously buy all there mods in Halfords and only Halfords, Ripspeed or nothing
jeebowhite
haha, one more eats Ford dust :D good result! what sort of gap did you have by the end of the circuit? are we talking many seconds?
The Dark Knight
Not sure but not much, maybe 1.5 or 2 seconds. Only a straight line. He was annoyed because as pointed out above, the VXR has between 10 and 20 more BHP in stock vs stock (which mine is). But the ST has 200bhp on overboost and more torque which is what sealed it. He did concede that the ST is better anyway having read various reviews but added the VXR is old now and when Vauxhall release a new one, it will destroy the ST on all fronts Keep dreaming lol
SandyCat
And in 10 years time the ST will still be sounding good whilst the VXR will sound like a pile of spanners in a metal box and putting out more smoke than the Vatican on new pope day.
jeebowhite
so very true! at least he saw the light that the ST is better... Ford should now allow the gryffin to get one up on us though!!!

MattDRX
Surprising tbh, what year was the vxr? The corsa is a lot heavier by a few hundred kgs iirc but it's 192ps on ob so not more powerful at all. The final gears are a lot longer though, I know it revs a lot lower at those speeds. Plus 1 for esp being off, tragedy you can't keep it off, just goes so much better and more eager down round the twisties as the vxr lot call them. The Dark Knight
I had the ESP in sport mode. Would that kill any torque etc? It was a private plate but 09 year. The gap may have been bigger but I honestly couldn't tell for sure. Pretty sure it wasn't the nurburgring edition as it didn't have the logo on. Some minor mods I think. The magazines quote the 0-60 times as being about the same. I didn't realise the VXR was heavier. What is it's non overboost BHP?
MattDRX
The 1.2 unlimited edition is around 1600kgs so have a guess around that mark lol burg editions have a twin exhaust rather than that triangular one and came out in 2011 iirc.Esp will reduce power to stop it spinning, so when dragging what you want to do is let the tyres down a touch and turn it off on a decent surface and you'll never wheel spin in most cases and let all the power down. The Dark Knight
Interesting. How heavy is the ST then? Around 1200kg?
MattDRX
Thought it was less than that. 11 hundred and something. Power to weight does matter to an extent but gearing is as important such as the STs major flaw in the 0-60 and not being able to do 60 in 2nd which I find really strange. The corsa does about 66 in 2nd. So with the same factory time the fiesta could in theory do it alot quicker with the limiter increased. MattDRX
Also the 1.0s do 62ish in 2nd gear, very odd why Ford timed it up like that. Edited July 29, 2014 by Stoney871 Removed Ap tag
mixmasterlooney
FYI guys I actually think the vxr astra looks rather good lol. Slay me if you must lol. Nurbergring edition comes in 1 colour that hideous copper looking thing and has twin exhaust Sent from my GT-N7105 using Ford OC mobile app
SandyCat
Might look good but Ford have got the handling nailed and VX can't touch it.

MattDRX
Wouldn't say that. Personally I think it's a great car, wouldn't own one though due to the clientele who have owned them in past and !Removed! on fuel and lots to tax. Plus they don't have a temp gauge. ..something that really irritates me (historical issues with engine temps) but they are very easy to mod to 300bhp more so than the ST. karlos1987
I love the astra vxr. I test drove one and a focus st and preferred the astra. However I can not stand the corsa vxr. Looks like an astra vxr that's been squashed lol. Sent from my C5303 using Ford OC mobile app
mixmasterlooney
I wouldn't own one either and it's a car that struggles to lay down its power Sent from my GT-N7105 using Ford OC mobile app
DaveTheDog
If it were down to looks alone then overall the VXR takes on a more aggressive stance, although the ST does look better at the pointy end, just something about the big open mouth of the ST......... just waiting to swallow you up as you look in the rear view mirror.
