Mondeo Mk4 Power Start, Starts But With A Struggle

Hi,

I have mk4 tit x sport, when I start if a morning it starts but only just! I engage the clutch then press abs hold the ford power button but it sounds like it's not going to start then just about starts??

Many help would be great thanks

If by this you mean that it turns over fairly slowly, but manages to start ('08 2 litre TDCI?), then there is good news and bad news. Both bits of the news are the same; it is electrical and not the engine itself.

There are a number of possibilities

  • battery not getting fully charged (alternator/wiring/alternator drive belt)
  • battery about to give up (note: more likely of battery old)
  • wiring to starter motor (usually, at connections)
  • earth to engine/starter

Looking for fault codes and measuring voltages is the first thing to do and, if that doesn't show anything, get someone to check the battery condition (current delivery). Inspect the connections, and clean if there is any doubt (you'd probably be surprised how little corrosion is needed to cause a problem). measure voltage on charge.

Only then, if you haven't found something in the battery condition and wiring is it worth moving on to the serious stuff like the starter/alternator (depending on which way the evidence points).
