What are everyones thoughts on this. I do quite a lot of motorway miles and since they have put quieter tarmac down I have noticed I can hear my engine a lot more.

Does my car have a particularly loud engine or are they all the same

mine sounded like a tractor after I got it, best thing I did was change fuel an run some cleaner through it. sounds new and its pretty hard to hear much of those diesel noises I got used too. as for anything more than that I haven't a Scooby.

Thats the thing. It is perfectly quiet at idle and at around town speeds. Just when i get on the motorway it seems extra loud

Soundproofing IMHO on the Mk2 /2.5 is crap, It's tyre noise that I hear. That said I still think it's a great car, and would not be put off from buying one............I'm on my third, Mk1..Mk2..Mk2.5

I dare say it might be better on the latest model the Mk3, but I never even tried one on for size, the 20% smaller boot capacity didn't fit my requirements.

The mk2.5 has better soundproofing than the mk2 the mk3 has extra thick carpets as well as sound deadening under the bonnet and undertrays as well

Mines extra quiet as ive put more underlay under the carpets under the rear seats the boot ive put down sound deadening sheets and fitted an undertray and underbonnet sound deadening

I agree, the mk2.5 sound proofing is better than the mk2 especially behind the dash to kill out the engine noise but it still gets through just no as bad. I love the car as well and would not be put of by the road noises but on long journeys a little bit more of sound proofing would of been great.

artsscot what stuff did you use for these sound proofing project?

Has it made a good difference because I do notice sometimes its hard to talk to back passengers while on motor way runs with out shouting a bit lol! :)
