Bonnet Open, Erratic Rear Wiper And No Blower!

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has had anything similar to this before delving into the electrics.

Got into the car this morning and it said the bonnet was open. It wasn't. Then the rear wiper started going a third of it's usual sweep at each click of the relay. Then as the car misted up I realised I had no heater blower. The car was working perfectly when it was parked up but it had been raining heavily. A fault or loads of WD 40 and wait for it to dry out?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Russ

Oh yes and its a Focus 1.8 TDCI 2006. Might help!

Pretty sure battery is ok, always starts first turn of the engine, any weather. I'm going with water myself but just wondered if it was a known fault. You never know do you. :)

I've never had anything like that happen on mine in the 3 years I've had it. I does sound like moisture has got somewhere it shouldn't, especially if you are confident the battery is solid. You might want to check the earth straps as well, a loose 1 can cause havoc with the electrics.

Check that both battery terminal connections are tight & charge the battery as a precaution - then try starting & see if the faults persist.

I'll check the battery when I get home. Got a 20 mile drive so it should charge up ok. I'll let you know hen it's sorted. Just in case it happens to anyone else. :)

LOL, often it's the smallest thing that causes the biggest problems

check for water ingress and corrosion at the connectors of the gem module(fuse box under passenger footwell)

Ive taken the GEM out and no sign of water, but........................................

one of the sockets had the clip half over when I was takeing it out. Still Ive done some contact cleaner and it will go back in tomorrow. We shall see. :)

If the locking bar isn't fully latched that's a very likely cause as the connector won't lock in properly otherwise and you'll only be getting partial contact with some of the terminals.

Spot on buddy. :) Just to wind this thread up thanks for all the suggestions. The locking bar about a quarter of the way up, probably courtesy of my sons mate's big feet! I must stress to anyone with similar weird problems it was only a tiny fraction out of place, not the half over I at first thought, so there we go problem solved.

Thanks again

Russ

Good to hear you've sorted it - it's common that manufacturers don't seem to pay enough attention to protecting connections in footwells to stop problems dislodging connectors when passengers have feet which are too big ;)

Thank god for this site pulled me out so many problems.. Had same problem as this bonnet open and loads of electrics not working.. Im presuming that gem thing thats mentioned is the black clip mine was partly open.. Whod of thought such a minor thing can cause so many issues.. Bring back the days only had worry about electric windows.. Far too much to go wrong these days..

Thanks again for sharing saved me a fortune and the last of the hair i have left lol

The switch on the bonnet latch is faulty.
