Rattle When Going Over Bumps

Bought a brand new ST-2 in November, noticed straight away it had a rattle whenever I went over a bump, seems like its coming over from the drivers side. It's like a metal jingling sound, drives me crazy over every single bump!

I've taken it into Ford who have been absolutely useless, basically I took it in a few weeks ago first thing in the morning for a 'full day' to find this rattle, got to about 4 clock and rang them see if my car was nearly ready, the woman said do I mind nipping down and taking there 'specialist' for a drive to show him the rattle. So i went down there and within 30 seconds he said he could hear the rattle clear as day, he said book it in again for a full day and we'll have have a good look at it now i've heard the rattle. Booked it in for a full day again which was yesterday, took it in first thing, phoned up about 4 clock to see if its nearly ready, to which i just got 'do you mind taking our specialist out to show him the rattle' So what they've been doing for the full two days its been in the garage I don't know, so i just said no thanks i give up lol.

Just wondering if anybodys had anything similar on here and fixed it themselves? I've checked the interior nothing seems to be loose.

Cheers.

I've had a few rattles in mine so I understand the frustration. At least you've figured out that dealer is useless, so I'd take it to another but see if you can go for a drive with the mechanic before you leave it with them.

It's just a Fiesta, it will rattle a hell of a lot more in years to come than it is now. no car is rattle proof, the cheaper they are the more they rattle.

Exactly, and I've found that some rattles come and go with time. The hard suspension doesn't help either.

I found they rattled when cold / on start up, but once they've rattled themselves out it stops, same for when it gets a bit warmer lol

I had an annoying creaky rattle coming from the front drivers side myself. I thought it was something to do with the steering or suspension at first. Worrying!

Turns out that it's actually the bonnet. When the body flexes slightly going over a bump or round a corner it squeaks.

I found this out pushing the bonnet down over the wheel arch.. It didn't sound like it was coming from the wheel.. so I tried pushing the side of the bonnet horizontally just over the wing. Sure enough it made the same noise.

As the others said - it's only a fiesta at the end of the day. :)

I know this is an old post but this might be useful to somebody...... spend a couple of hours today trying to diagnose a rattle coming from front nearside when driving over bumps..... couldn't see anything initially, then finally noticed an almost complete ring of the coil-spring had snapped-off but was still retained. So rattled away like jingle bells when going over bumps. Interestingly hadn't felt any change to ride or handling (2010 Fiesta Zetec 1.4 petrol).

THANK YOU. I had same noise, like spanners knocking together. Took wheel off and everything, including spring was tight. Found your post through Google, went back and found part of the coil spring in the bottom cup, hidden but knocking against the rest of the spring. Also slight difference in wheel arch height between sides which may help someone if the broken part had fallen out. 2009 Fiesta, 60k miles
