Popping/Crackling speakers - help!

Anything over a very low volume causes intermittent popping/crackling of the audio system regardless of where I set the balance.

Assumption is with my limited knowledge are the Speakers are foobared but any tips on diagnosis etc would be appreciated please!

Vehicle is a MK7 1.4TDCi Fiesta 2010

Hi Steven,

Speaker or Speakers are officially blown, the tweeter has lost connection within its housing causing the distortion.

The stock Speakers are only 25w paper mashea despite stereo capable of putting out 50w 😕 all modern vehicles are equipped with cheap as chips audio as its somthing they can save some money on, even "premium upgrade" is much the same Speakers just different headunit.

here's mine removed: 

I suggest upgrading to aftermarket speakers which majoritie are material more durable for flexing.

the aftermarket speakers won't look any different when fitted as they will be inside the door card but you will instantly hear the difference in sound, 

They got to the existing cables so there's no routing of wires through door goose necks.

Brilliant thanks for the info! So would it be best practice to remove all 4 and the tweeters and replace the lot?

If funds allowed you to do all four; I would mate,

Otherwise the front will out balance the rears in terms the performance handling before distortion is achieved.

if your front speakers have separate tweeters then they are "component speakers" your looking for a set of 6.5" components instead of 6.5" coaxial for the front if that is the case.

eBay seems to be lacking in much component stuff for me.

I kitted out my first car purchading everything from CarAudioDirect aswell.

CarAudioDirect website is very user friendly and provides all specifications which can be compared on there layout sheet. 

 

You have gotten some good prices on your choice of Speakers in this case but in comparison on other items on the market; CarAudioDirect are quite expensive compared to other uk sites.

 

I've kitted out my focus with JL Audio amps & Speakers from SoundEvo.co.uk saved over 300GBP compared to other suppliers.

Also purchased cables and adaptors from CarAudioSecurity.co.uk and purchased the Pioneer headunit with conversion kit from DynamicSounds.co.uk

You don't really need the speaker adapters, 

I prefer crimp spade connectors, 

The picture of speaker adaptors will help enough though;

Your factory loom won't be coloured red and black cables, there more likely to be violet and white; making it difficult to know 😦 which one is positive and which one is negative.

 

However; 

If you look at the picture of the speaker adaptor you can see the factory speaker plug on your vehicle to work out which one turns to red on the plug and which one turns to black.

 

Once diagnosed you can then crimp on some spade connectors and run new cable to the coaxial Speakers or the crossover box's.

 

I recommend purchasing a pack of sticky back Velcro pads to secure the crossover box's from the front speakers to the doors, ive used these myself and hold very well

 

The second item i recommend are some door card clips, you can pick up 20 pack on eBay very cheap, don't need to be from Ford, existing ones break easily when removing the door cards.

Lastly then; a Haynes manual specific to your vehicle will show you exactly how to remove the door cards identifying where screws are etc.

I highly recommend the DEi Boom speaker baffles; you linked them there in the above post, I have them in front & rear doors they help produce deep bass aswell as protecting the speakers from water and moisture👍

Any particular recommendation on the Velcro? Or so long as it's something heavy duty will it be sufficient?

Not really mate, any sort of sticky back should do nicely.

just choosing location to stick the crossover box's can be tricky as the door cards only have pockets in certain areas.

so just need to ensure you have correct point before sticking
