Allister67
Hi I have just replaced the front brake discs and pads on my 99 plate Ka, and now the offside is making a really horrible noise. I took it for a 500 yd test drive, and it sounded like there was a bag of gravel between the disc and the pads. Having inspected the brakes, there is light scoring on the outside of the offside disc, but not across the width of the pad, it starts about halfway across the pad and runs to the outside edge of the disc. Needless to say, I have put everything back together properly. Any ideas why this would be happening (problem with the pads maybe? bought from Halfords, but they fit properly - not tried to fit ABS pads to a non-ABS car for example)? Thanks

Allister67
sounds like you might have a bit of dirt stuck somehow. i would remove the pads again and clean everything up Possibly, but then I fitted the new pads on Saturday, got the noise and the scoring on the offside disc, so fitted new discs today and same problem, which is why I'm wondering if it's a problem with the pads or something else mechanical. delboy
i would remove all parts fitted & make sure you have a clean face on the disk mounting section as you may have picked up a small stone & trapped it on the disk mounting face so it would put the disk slightly out on 1 point to caue the scoring of the pad
