Induction kit issues - help appreciated

Hi all,

I have signed up hoping to get some help.

I have installed an induction kit on my Ford ST180 and it seems to be having issues. The noise coming from it while idling is deafening. It is a very loud hissing coming from the black pipe that connects to the Silicone hose. (Attached image)

This noise seems to go away when accelerating, most noticeably at around 2000RPM and above while in second gear. When my foot is off the accelerator the noise comes back. While in neutral the noise only goes away sometimes when I put my foot on the accelerator. I have recorded a video of the noise here:

I have also attached an image of the cable that all this noise seems to be coming through.

I have looked online at different induction kits and none seem to have this horrible noise, does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

A slight vacuum leak, that is why its hissing. Either the connector is not on properly or the JSPerformance is a poor fit.

Maybe you know this but in the event that you overlooked it;

The red plastic on that black connector is a clip that you can partially pull up, the idea is you pull it up and then remove the connector. To refit, you push the the black connector in, then push the red clip back down.

I do believe that I have fitted that part correctly, but please let me know if I'm wrong.

There is a metal lip on the connection that stops it going any closer to the silicone hose. I have pushed it as far up as possible and then pushed the red clip down. I have taken a photo of the piece of metal that is stopping it going any further.

Is there anything I'm missing about that piece as the noise is 100% coming from that black connector hose?

Haven't fitted a kit myself but could you try a new connector or even a jubilee clip to secure to the hose? (My apologies if this wouldn't help, just a  suggestion!)

Looking at other pictures of the same induction kit on the ST, the plastic connector is flush against the main red part. I would suggest gently heating the plastic connector so it goes over the metal lip as the that will form a correct seal with the clip in place.

How would you suggest I heat it without causing any damage? Any method you know of without any specialist equipment of sorts?

A hair dryer or hot air gun (electric) should work

I have tried heating it a bit however this unfortunately hasn't helped.

I have looked at the hose again and it seems that it cannot go any further. The black hose gets smaller on the inside, and this clashes with the metal lip. When these touch it cannot go any further. (images attached)

I'm really at a loss here, any ideas what to do?

Perhaps the metal pipe on the induction hose has been installed backwards. Try lostening the hose clamp and seeing if it’s shorter the other way around.

Very odd, we have those types of fittings at work (for air pipes/hosing), usually one end is "barbed" or ribbed so it makes a good fit inside the tubing.

As Thai fiesta says, you could always see if the metal fitting will go any further into the red tubing so the metal shoulder butts up against the very end of the red hose instead of being 20mm out. It might stop the air leaking.

You should just be able to loosen there metal clamp off and the metal adaptor will just pull out of the red hose.

Hope this helps!

No worries :)

After looking at another induction kit for the ST180 (not a JS one) it would seem that the black connector should sit just about flush with the red hose, see link below:

Induction Kit

Also after looking at a few youtube videos this would seem to be the case:

Video 2

After looking at the induction hose on the JS site it would seem that the end that isnt connected into the induction hose does seem to be longer than what seems to be protruding out of yours, so in fact it may have been installed backwards or not all the way in!.

So I have just disconnected everything, and that metal connection piece could be pushed back, so I pushed it as far as it would go with the black connector attached then tightened everything up. Unfortunately it hasn't changed anything.

There is no air leak as far as I can tell, the noise itself is air being pushed through said black cable and the noise is escaping through the Air Filter Cone. One thing I did notice though is my MAF sensor ( don't know if it is in anyway related ) can be pulled off even when the red clip is down. I have no dash errors when it is on like this, only if I completely remove it.

I'm clutching at straws really as I have no clue what is wrong with the car.

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Very odd indeed.

May be an idea to get a second opinion from a local indie if you wished?.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance!

Yes mate, the black hose that clips onto the silicone hose is faulty. The one closest to you with the red clip. It branches of into 3 or 4 different parts and there is valve/solenoid part that's letting air constantly through so it sounds horrible. It's fairly easy to remove, if possible take one off a mates ST and test it. You'll see the difference straight away. It cost me about £110 if I mind right, not cheap for all it is like. If it was the same issue as mine, the noise is likely there with the standard airbox on too, it's just nowhere near as loud

I haven't owned the ST in years but I have copied and pasted a response I made on another post above. This is the fix for the issue, I never knew other people was posting here asking for help. The above should do the job.

Turns out it was indeed that electronic purge valve, Son purchased the entire lot of pipes & junctions, he wasn't messing about trying to warm up the junction of the faulty part, then after reassembling he ends up with an air link.

Thanks for everyone's help in sorting out this problem, I've attached the Ford part numbers and what is faulty.

Just a note that whilst at the Ford parts counter, someone else had ordered exactly the same part, so it's a common fault.
