TPMS Sensors not detected

Featured Replies

Afternoon All

I am experiencing ongoing issues with the TPMS sensors not being detected. The vehicle was recently purchased and did not display this message during the initial drives. However, on January 6, 2025, I had the vehicle serviced at Kwik Fit. According to their report, no issues were identified. Despite this, the message continues to appear every time the engine is started. Could someone provide clarification on the cause of this issue and the recommended solution. Thank you.

Just to give you an update. Took it in to Kwik-fit this morning they did the diagnostics for free. Turns out it was the rear offside valve sensor they reckon the battery in it was flat, sensor lo

  • I don't understand why the car would fail its MOT if the tyre pressures were all correct.

  • so if the warning light is on its a major but if the light disabled in forscan and tyres at the correct pressure it should pass without issue?

The TPMS sensors are fitted inside of the tyre (part of the valve). They contain a small non-replaceable battery which lasts between 7 and 10 years. Once the battery runs flat the sensor needs to be replaced. A full set of 4 can be bought on eBay for around £65.

You will need a tyre garage to fit them (do not use KwikFit) most charge about £15 to £20 per wheel for fitting.

Time I added some confusion to the mix. There are two different types of sensor, triangle and square. You can change them yourself with a press to push the edge of the tyre down to remove the sensor and a valve pulling tool. That's how I did it on mine. Get the ones that fit your car and a programming adaptor.

Thank you Unofix and Anon,

Appreciated.

Here are some examples of the TPMS sensors used on Ford vehicles.

I guess your local garage doesn't like you very much 🙁

You can buy the sensors on eBay for £10 or less. An independent tyre garage will fit them for between £15 and £20 per wheel. So worse case it will cost you £120 total to get all 4 wheels done.

Be aware there are 3 different types of sensor, which are easy to identify by the 'square' 'triangle' or 'circle'
