I’ve never found the battery values in the forscan UI to be accurate. My factory value was unknown as was the value I changed it to, which I got from a diesel with bigger factory fit battery.

it really didn't make much sense, because it originally had a battery of 60ah and 600ah and that value didn't appear in forscan.
In my case I changed to a 70ah 760cc AGM, in this new forscan what setting do you advise?
Or do I install an older fordscan and put 700ah 700cc?

Was your original battery AGM ?

no , efb 60Ah,600CCa

Then you have a bit of a problem.

The charging algorithm is very different for EFB compared to AGM.

You are going to have to find a suitable battery profile for an AGM, which possibly does not exist for your model. Matching the Ah and the Cold Crank Amps is only part of the settings needed to ensure the correct charging of the battery.

The options in Forscan are just the developers interpretation of the bit value.

The car cares about the bit value you set, not what forscan thinks that means.

The bit value will vary depending on the car and calibration (firmware) for the module. That’s why I found another car of similar age on the same calibration and used the as built to get the value for the larger battery.

I have no idea what the agm value would be or if your cars firmware would even understand the value as it was never built with agm from factory. I certainly wouldn’t trust the forscan UI values. I edited mine manually. Forscan considers both the value I had from factory and the value I used from another car as unknown, even though it is a Ford as built factory value for my calibration.

I already changed the settings for agm .

In the old version of forscan there was more choice of batteries

from this huge list, in the latest versions it only went to 3 sizes of battery available

FORScan removed most of the Battery choices in the latest version because they were carried over from different car types and were wrong for your car and others newer ones.

If you install an earlier version of FORScan and change the Battery type to one of the listed ones then it will almost certainly be wrong for your car.

If you choose undefined what happens?

I don't know.

Whatever you choose won't make a fat lot of difference. Nothing you will notice

The only thing that I have seen make a difference (and it can be seen and measured) is the SOC. With mine set to 95% the typical state of charge of my battery is around 88% most of the time.

I changed it today in forscan and I had a great trip, and in 60ah and 600cc with 90% SOC and the voltage remains at 12.4/12.5 after the car is at rest, so I think the most important thing is the soc

My mk8 mild hybrid 2021 fiesta battery was a 590A 60Ah SLI battery.

It died this week. Extended warranty does not cover it. I've ordered one online, recommended by varta website and autoparts vendors.

650A 65Ah EFB

Thing is, it's shorter. 175. Otherwise length and width fits perfectly.

I had to cut a bit of plastic to be able to fit correctly the positive cable. And put a plastic between the battery and the locking tray to keep. It in place. Doesn't move.

Reset to the bms and all working perfectly. One touch window, start stop, radio

I take it you don't get 3 year warranty in the country your in. In the UK you get 3 year base warranty that covers the battery.

Back in 2021 in my country, was only 2 years + 5 of extended warranty. They changed it in 2022 for 3 years global warranty + 4 extended for new cars sold after 2022.

Ford offered to pay a percentage but it would end up more expensive installing it on them, than what I paid for this varta, which have better specs.

I thought Ford UK consider the 12V battery a wear and tear item? I'd be surprised if they even covered it for the first year...

Here in Portugal they consider wear and tear unit

I still can't believe how Ford cheaped out with a 590A SLI battery on a mild hybrid!

The hybrid battery does most of the stop/start, so the MHEVs can get away with a smaller battery than non-MHEVs.

I changed it to 90% and I think it was the best option, the load remains at 12.45v at idle before starting in the morning, with 80% it was 12.3v maybe too low and I didn't notice any difference in the consumption of the car.

I remember I had set that value at 85% last year.

  • 1 month later...

My driving profile has changed markedly since buying my second Mk8 this year. It is now four years old and on the original battery. The car spends three weeks of the month largely dormant doing no more than 100 miles and the fourth doing about 1,000 miles in four stints of about 250 miles a day. At the start of the week, the car will not keylessly unlock from the passenger's side but by the time I have arrived in Carelles 300 miles away, it will and the stop start is active within half a mile, remaining so for the rest of the week. Regular long trips are the key to good battery health. Using the performance tops the battery up faster. A good thrash from Poole to Chichester is enough to enable the stop start as a rule.

So is the height of the battery 175mm or 190mm?

.... and this is in response to what question ? 🤔
