It should go to sleep even if in range of the car afaik.

I will report back after I have tried it then, mine was registered May 19. I got a feeling it's likely going to be the old fob though.

  • I use a Faraday pouch for mine too.  Except when the car has annoyed me... on those days it can take it's chances 🤪

  • You can turn keyless entry off on the mk8 in the menus.

  • I have a wallet that act as a Faraday pouch.

I know I have sleepy keys, so I'll try to remember to check on mine too.

Do you have 2 key fobs?

I always wonder if I should switch them up every now and again, wondering if the spare would lose its programmed info if I didn't use it for a long time?

Worst case if you don't use a keyless key for a long time is that the keyless part stops working, and you'll have to use the button to unlock the car and wake the key from it's deep sleep.

It won't forget the programming. I've left spare keys indoors unused for a couple years and they still work.

I have an ST keying as my fob isn't ST branded! But then again my Mk7 ST-2 doesn't have keyless entry...

Doesn't need to be keyless if they nick the fob from you...  Narrows down the potential choices in a car park for example.

True, but I think you can worry too much about these things. I like a nice key/keyring...

I worry too much about everything tbf!

Having badges or keyrings make no difference when all you have to do is walk around the car park pressing the unlock button.

I don't know any way to tell from the outside.

If you have a VIN, you can check the build date on Etis, or just ask your dealer what the build date and model year is.

I have the VIN but ETIS doesn't show a build date.

You might need to register as an IO (independent operator) and login to see it.

True, it's just about making it a bit more difficult for the thieves really.  They could spend half an hour walking around a supermarket carpark plipping the fob...and why bother stealing it if it's just a poverty Zetec model?  If an opportunist spots an ST branded fob that's going to draw their attention to it...

If it's keyless, they're unlikely to ever see the fob though, it will be in your pocket/bag. I only take mine out when I get home.

The beauty of keyfree entry is that my key doesn't need to leave my pocket so shouldn't get dropped or pilfered.

Just checked my 67 plate Titanium and it's not in the Locks menu on mine so will continue with the wallet solution 😉

The option to turn off the keyless entry was added late 2018 iirc.

My June 2018 built Fiesta didn't have the option.

So what you're saying Alex, is that I have a limited edition early adopter model ?

😂

Doesn’t matter what logo is on it if they nick the fob from you, press the buttons the lights flash,

@alexp999, as my last post I said I will update when I check my keys.

I checked mine today, placed keys by door on ground, waited 1-2 minutes, tried opening door, locked. Picked up keys door opened.

So that's good to know I have the sleepy keys🙂.

I will try again another time just to be sure.
