My dad has an MX-5 and has been travelling to work 4 or so days a week.

So, there is at least 1 person doing an essential journey in one 😛

Apparently the "experts" are going to present their findings today on whether the public should wear masks. No doubt that will trigger the next wave of panic buying if they recommend in favour!

I did see that when they recommended this in Japan, some members of the Yakuza complained that this would make it harder to intimidate people face to face!😀

Masks are only useful if they are used but more importantly, handled properly, otherwise it can either have no effect or make things worse.

Medical professionals are trained in how to use them properly, given the stupidity many of the British public have showed over the past month, I think it would be safer to not ask people to wear masks.

Most people would benefit by covering their face with a plastic bag!

Yes, I can accept the argument that they may possibly prevent those already infected spreading the  virus to other people and can understand it being discussed. However it seems irresponsible to make these discussions public at a point where there are still serious worldwide problems with supplies of PPE for medical staff and essentiall workers, with risks of panic buying and also giving a sense of false security which may detract from other measures.

Me too 🤣

Found this Simpsons clip.

Some of you may recall January 2019 I began to create a smart home setup for my mother whom lives alone and is almost 70 with a number long term conditions.

I installed an Amazon echo plus along with two echo spots in other rooms, a hive heating controller and a number of automatic lights and sockets all operational via Alexa followed by mounting the living room television on the wall and putting all cables inside the wall with a Swann CCTV system to monitor outside, and a one touch hot water dispenser to save lifting a hot kettle.

Well shes currently in self isolation and doesn't leave the house atall, all prescriptions and Shopping she does via local telephone as she cant use the internet except for Alexa,

She uses a very simple Doro phone which doesn't even take pictures,

She has a total of nine grandchildren; three of which are mine; which she can no longer see due to COVID-19, I was taking to her today via telephone as she lives almost 280 miles away from me, I offered to have an 2nd Gen 10" Amazon Echo Show sent to her address directly from Amazon,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Echo-Show-With-Screen-2nd-Generation-Alexa/dp/B0793G9T6T/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Amazon+echo+show+10&qid=1587665022&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyNU04NFM0VkJDRFFEJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODEzNDk3M01QM1pQTEpRSjJZNCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDgwNjExMVpTM0VVQTIxSkZFRyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Which is essentially an Alexa device with added features of a large 10" screen and a camera.

She could install it to herself by saying "Alexa Discover my devices" it will then automatically install to her wifi network through the assistance of the existing Alexa system which I previously setup on site.

This way all family members could communicate with her via video by downloading the alexa app to there mobile phone or computer for free and adding her email address as a contact for free video communication across the internet 🤷‍♂️ great idea I thought

But she has declined my offer; doesn't want it and says that none of them would bother contacting; we were never a close family and shes happy enough to be left alone that way.

There's just no helping some people, saves me spending my time & money but I thought it would have been worth it to facilitate communication with the growing generation for them to see there grandmother again, in a time that so many are losing theres.

Quite a horrible attitude from her but that just my opinion.

Just for the sake of clarification, here are those lockdown rules, one more time:

1. You MUST NOT leave the house for any reason, but if you have a reason, you can leave the house

.2. Masks are useless at protecting you against the virus, but you may have to wear one because it can save lives, but they may not work, but they may be mandatory, but maybe not.

3. Shops are closed, except those shops that are open.

4. You must not go to work but you can get another job and go to work.

5. You should not go to the Doctor's or to the hospital unless you have to go there, unless you are too poorly to go there.

6. This virus can kill people, but don’t be scared of it. It can only kill those people who are vulnerable or those people who are not vulnerable. It’s possible to contain and control it, sometimes, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.

7. Gloves won't help, but they can still help so wear them sometimes, or not.

8. STAY HOME, but it's important to go out.

9. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarkets, but there are many things missing. Sometimes you won’t need loo rolls but you should buy some just in case you need some.

10. The virus has no effect on children except those children it affects.

11. Animals are not affected, but there was a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…

12. Stay 2 metres away from tigers (see point 11).

13. You will have many symptoms if you get the virus, but you can also get symptoms without getting the virus, get the virus without having any symptoms or be contagious without having symptoms, or be non contagious with symptoms...it's a sort of lucky/unlucky dip.

14. To help protect yourself you should eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand as it's better not to go to the shops, unless you need toilet roll or a fence panel.

15. It's important to get fresh air but don't go to parks but go for a walk. But don’t sit down, except if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant or if you’re not old or pregnant but need to sit down. If you do sit down don’t eat your picnic, unless you've had a long walk, which you are/aren't allowed to do if you're old or pregnant.

16. Don’t visit old people but you have to take care of the old people and bring them food and medication.

17. If you are sick, you can go out when you are better but anyone else in your household can’t go out when you are better unless they need to go out.

18. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house. These deliveries are safe. But groceries you bring back to your house have to be decontaminated outside for 3 hours including frozen pizza.

19. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but they can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.

20. You are safe if you maintain the safe social distance when out but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.

21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours ... or four hours...or six hours... I mean days, not hours. But it needs a damp environment. Or a cold environment that is warm and dry... in the air, as long as the air is not plastic.

22. Schools are closed so you need to home educate your children, unless you can send them to school because you’re not at home. If you are at home you can home educate your children using various portals and virtual class rooms, unless you have poor internet, or more than one child and only one computer, or you are working from home. Baking cakes can be considered maths, science or art. If you are home educating you can include household chores within their education. If you are home educating you can start drinking at 10am.

23. If you are not home educating children you can also start drinking at 10am.

24. The number of corona related deaths will be announced daily but we don't know how many people are infected as they are only testing those who are almost dead to find out if that's what they will die of. The people who die of corona who aren’t counted, won’t or will be counted but maybe not.

25. We should stay in locked down until the virus stops infecting people but it will only stop infecting people if we all get infected so it’s important we get infected and some don’t get infected.

26. You can join your neighbours for a street party and turn your music up for an outside disco and your neighbours won’t call the police. People in another street are allowed to call the police about your music whilst also having a party which you are allowed to call the police about.

27. No business will go down due to Coronavirus except those businesses that will go down due to Coronavirus.

Hope that makes things clearer for you

very clear 👍

LOL 👍

My existing Bosch S4 007 battery in my 2010 Ford Focus 1.6TDCi is on its way out of service; although it is over five years old and supports aftetmarket items such as two Class D amplifiers, tv tuner, dash cams and a 10" roof monitor.

I live in Ireland and the country is as others in lockdown; I'm an essential worker manufacturing pharmaceuticals for two vaccines currently in clinical trials aswell as other pharmaceuticals; so I need the vehicle to be operating well,

But there isn't anywhere open for me to purchase a replacement battery; and I don't want anything other than a Bosch battery in my car because nothing else will provide the consistent performance as much as Bosch does,

So sourcing a supplier of a new battery during lockdown is one obstacle; sourcing a Bosch S4 007 or Bosch S5 007 from that supplier is then another obstacle again.

The Bosch S5 is slightly bigger capacity to the S4, meaning you can use it alot more without having to run the engine; the S5 is designed for vehicles with additional accessories such as heated seats, heated windscreen or those with "stop/start" technology.

So I set my sights on sourcing a Bosch S5 007 for my focus with the only alternative option being that I would walk to work instead of fitting anything other.

I went on to Amazon and found a supplier of Bosch S5 and found the 007 variant in stock; all good, however they don't ship to Ireland, which is somewhat understandable as batteries can be dangerous; I had an experience before where a seller in Dublin couldn't get a courier to ship batteries around the country by road; which is where I had to drive 40 minutes up to Dublin last time to purchase the Bosch S4,

Anyway back on topic; found a supplier with a Bosch S5 007 in stock selling for £104.00 couldn't believe the price; so cheap compared to the €243.00 price tag I was facing with an online supplier in Ireland,

However they don't ship outside of the mainland,

I decided to try shipping it via AddressPal which is a service operated by Irish post; they provide you with a specific number to use on top of there address in herefordshire; they receive the parcel then check there data base to match the specific number with your real address then forward it on to either your address or a cheaper option of having it delivered to your local post office.

However they don't ship anything atall to do with batteries; I wondered what they would say to receiving a 20kg battery 😂

I chose to ignore that part and chance purchase via AddressPal.

Got a text thismorning to say a parcel was ready for collection in my local post office; I was expecting to collect a small envelope containing a small glass plug for the rear wiper of my focus to replace the existing rubber de-wiper bung currently fitted, which I have also shipped to the AddressPal address.

However to my surprise and excitement;

20200425_110123.thumb.jpg.c496cae18bcccab98b252cef89e9c92f.jpg

It was the battery 😂

Only cost me €3.95 shipping to receive it from the post office via the uk address service, and means I don't have to worry about the car not starting when working nights or evening shifts,

Very well packaged

And here it is ready for fitting 🥳

Existing battery is showing 12.4V on my capacitor at the moment but it was 12.1v at 3am thismorning when I went to it for a lunch break.

I think the above post has been put in the wrong thread. Ford Focus batteries have absolutely nothing to do with Corona Virus.

Playing a part in helping me get to work to manufacture pharmaceutical's which are being used to manufacture a possible successful vaccine for COVID-19  mixed with the fact I couldn't purchase one locally due to a lockdown as result of that COVID-19 🤷‍♂️ if your still with me; sorry for the boring excuses mate,

I agree it is a long winded relationship there but theres somewhat a connection (no pun intended)

I have no problem also; if the mods wish to remove it,

No hard feelings or underlined symptoms

Family eh! A relative of mine hasn't spoken to us for nearly 6 years - all lines of communication have been shut down and all except 1 visit has been fruitless - although they wouldn't talk to us even then - but we know they look well and are still living there.

Getting used to wearing protective glasses at work - have now learned that the strap does not need to be super tight, otherwise it makes it look like i'm frowning for hours afterwards where they've dug into my face 🤣
