  • If the battery is below 7v then get the engine jump started and leave it running for half an hour.  That'll put enough charge back in the battery for the Maypole to work.  That's what I did with mine.

Hi All, @unofix @TomsFocus @alexp999 @Tizer @DaveT70

So i come to charge with my newly arrived Maypol charger. However once hooked up it automatically selects 6V battery and displays alternatively 3.2v and 15.9v?

I know a lot of you use this charger from what I read from you guys on other pages here, this charger wont charge the battery below 7v, correct?

So i need a new battery? Would you just purchase a better EFB battery such as the yuasa as reccomended earlier or is their a suitable AGM battery? have you any of changed to that type of battery

Thanks

Replace with exactly what is fitted

Fully charge before fitting and then reset BMS

@DaveT70 Wouldn't the new battery have a full charge on it? How would i reset the BMS (i assume that's battery management system) Thanks

New batteries lose charge in storage, so it's always best to fully charge them before fitting now that modern cars are so sensitive to charge.  The BMS reset procedure can be found on Youtube.  I suspect it'll be the 'new' procedure for a Mk4 Focus, but I never replaced the battery on mine, it only died once, and I put that down to a one-off module glitch.

I also agree with just fitting another EFB.  That's what the charging profile is designed for.  But also, being an MHEV, the stop-start is mostly done using the 48v battery, so the 12v battery doesn't take as much strain on these as it did on the earlier non-MHEV models.

@TomsFocus Okay will have to wait for the Mrs to come back from work before I can attempt a jump start on mine. Will give that a go before new battery route.

As I had no warnings prior to this situation i'm hoping like yourself it was a one off situation.

All working now guys! cheers for all the advice!

Since all this happened my 12v socket seems to stay on now and not power off. So I have to pull out the dash cam now when exiting. Note it wpuld shut down pretty much on exiting and locking vehicle. Is there a fix for this?

Are you sure it doesn't power off ?

Depending on the Ford model they are usually set to turn off 20 to 30 minutes after the doors are locked.

Maybe the low charge was cutting it off early before?  I'm not sure how long the Mk4 sockets stay on as standard.

@TomsFocus it's been like that since i had the car last May. I guess the only thing i can do is leave the dash cam plugged in and see if it switches off at around 19 minutes...

@TomsFocus @unofix I left it for over 20 mins and it didnt switch off...strange one...might try a bit longer at home later.

I left it for longer a couple of times and the power did switch off somewhere over 22min to 45mins.

This morning at work, it switch off instantly again...so who knows really.
