Ford ka+ gear box issues

Hi, 

so I was just wondering if anyone had any issues with the gear box in there ka+, it originally started off as a weird noise which was not too noticeable but progressively got worse. I got my car serviced and he advised there was a slight issue and the noise was coming from the gear box but it shouldn’t cause me any major issues or danger whilst driving and to bring it into fords when everything was back up and running as normal. However last night my gear box completely gave up causing me to breakdown, I could just about get my car into 1st gear to move it slowly to a safe space and the car would not go into any other these but reverse. When they came out to recover the car they advised the gear box was completely written off, the car is only just over a year old and I can’t see why in a new car the gear box would fail to that extent and I believe it is a manufacturing fault. Has anyone had any similar issues or has a weird noise when there car slows down which is when I first noticed mine?

Over my 38 years of driving I have had a few cars with noisy gearboxes due to dodgy bearings. Some last years like that. But I had one a escort mk5 which went very quickly, making screeching noises on the overrun and clunking a lot . I really thought it was going to lock up so I changed it quick for another gearbox.on your car  It probably was a dodgy bearing, assuming it didn’t have an oil leak and ran dry. Should be done under warranty but a bit inconvenient
