The Ignition feed is not affected by the Stop&Go feature, if it's wired correctly 😁

There's an install guide that should be followed by the letter 😉 - is not a DIY job.

Mine is not the Ford dashcam and you are correct it's not a DIY task, but then I'm an Electronics Engineer. I can confirm that on a Mk4 Focus there is more than 1 ignition controlled supply and that one of them does turn off with the Stop/Start system even though the ignition is still on.

The Ford dashcam seems an interesting bit of kit, but the lack of an independent screen put me off getting one.

Initially I believed I needed one too, but after some time (years ago when I had a NextBase cam), i did ended by turning the display off. I found it extremely annoying in the night time... and useless to see on a little display the same thing I can see thru the windscreen only with a little bit of lag🤣🤣🤣

Thanks again. Having access to your knowledge is extremely beneficial, and greatly appreciated! It’s comforting to have confirmation that the cam seems to have been fitted in the correct spot. I can put this out of my mind now. I presume that the ‘Park’ recordings are being generated by the ignition being switched off coupled with motion of the vehicle whilst getting out and shutting the doors etc.? This won’t be a problem when I’m able to get a higher capacity SD card (it’s just a slight bind having to delete them all (did I read that there’s a ‘delete all” function?). In fact, in some respects, I think it’s potentially useful to have a short recording after parking up.

The Park mode became active 30 seconds after ignition is switched off. This allows you to close all doors without triggering a Park video.

If you are still at the car after that period, the Park file is discarded if your phone is connecting with the DashCam (while recording the Park).

Me, personally, I have the habit to get things out of the trunk or from inside the car without starting the engine and not keep the app in  background, so i have a lot of Park videos. So, periodically I check this folder and clean it.

Yes, it is.

  • Click on Park folder image.png.0fb85b219500eb99ae638bfb792a5629.png - any folder, actually, have the same behavior.
  • Click once on image.png.d5710a274f285eaff29ee03752a2a28e.pngto enter into the Select Mode - you can select multiple files one by one;
  • Click once more on image.png.b50d6800a82d6ef688783b8d16bd42d2.pngand all the files from current folder will be selected.
  • Click on delete image.png.8575b928647d39050a03b44aadebfeef.png

WARNING!! if you do not select any folder, ALL FILES will be selected.

Brilliant thank you. This clarifies so much. Thinking about a shopping trip for E.g. it’s easy to see that a ‘Park’ file is likely to be generated after applying hand gel, retrieving bags from the boot etc. Like you I won’t have the app. running on my phone, so it’s a case of regularly deleting as you describe. Can I ask what happens when you unlock to set off? Cheers!

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Apologies for lack of clarity. I’m guessing that opening the car doors and getting into the car etc. will generate a ‘Park’ video clip by virtue of the fact that the ignition is not yet switched in? Thanks in advance.

No need for apologies 🙂. I'm not a native English speaker and it shows 😄.

Indeed, closing the doors could generate a Park video depends how hard the door is slammed. The DashCam do not "know" what happens on the car, only that a shock was applied and "looks" for ignition. If the ignition is switched on while the Park video is recording, the Park is discarded and a normal video starts recording. If the ignition is not switched on, the Park video completes a full minute.

Hi,
Unfortunately the SYNC's mobile apps (Ford DashCam app included ) are only available when CarPlay/ Android Auto features are disabled.

There are a number of ways to protect a recording:
Automatically

  • "CRASH" - while driving if a certain G acceleration is met (crash, braking hard, or sometimes when the car is accelerating pretty hard while turning). In this case a 2 minutes "Crash" type video is saved - 1 minute before the crash trigger and another one after.

This video is saved in a CRASH named folder and will not be overwritten by the continuous recording feature.

  • "PARK" -  wile the car is parked if a shock is detected by the DashCam a 1 minute after the trigger video will be recorded (Park Mode must be ON)

This video is saved in a PARK named folder and will not be overwritten by the continuous recording feature.

No worries about the current draw when this feature is enabled!

It will remain under 10 microAmps (0.00001A!!)

Manually

  • "EVENT" type video is saved in a EVENT named folder and also will not be overwritten by the continuous recording feature.

"Event" type video length can be customized as 1, 3, 5, 10 minutes after the event or 1 minute before and 1, 3, 5, 10 minutes after the event. As you like.

This DashCam has a 1 minute buffer video that will be saved when a "Event" or "Crash" video is triggered, even if the DashCam is not recording (recording stopped VIA app or continuous recording is turned off)

This video type can be triggered as follow:
- VIA voice commands - when SYNC's mobile apps are available (see above)
- Click on Event button on SYNC app - when SYNC's mobile apps are available (see above)

- Click Event button on the mobile phone's app

- Or the easiest way, just press on the Ford logo button on the DashCam

Hi. As you suggest, triggering an event recording by pressing the Ford logo button should be easy, but it occurs to me that voice control might the the easiest method of all. Can you advise what the correct command string is please?

"are you blind?"

"bl00dy hell man!"

and

"what the #@&%"

Should all trigger the camera 😂

I can give these a try…..but I’m not convinced they’re legitimate Sync commands!🥴

 Of course not! 🤣🤣🤣

Voice commands are only available when SYNC mobile apps are enabled as you observed.

There are two cases:

  • SYNC Ford DashCam App is running .

The direct voice command are available.

  • SYNC Ford DashCam App is not running

In this case the command must be preceded by the commands:

"dashcam" or "ford dashcam"

See below the DashCam's voice command list:

VoiceCommand Action
Stop Stop DashCam recording
Pause Stop DashCam recording
Record Start Normal video recording
Start Start Normal video recording
Video Start Normal video recording
Event Start Event video recording
Incident Start Event video recording
Occurrence Start Event video recording
Snapshot Take a Picture
Photo Take a Picture
Picture Take a Picture

Excellent. Thanks again!

Any time!🙂

I’m still waiting for a suitable 128GB card to become available. Assuming I eventually obtain one, what is the correct procedure for formatting it for this device please?

14 minutes ago, Enthuse said:

  1. Insert the SD Card into computer
  2. Format SD Card.

😁

or:

  1. Insert SD Card into DashCam
  2. Format SD Card - with the app.

😁😁

Thanks. I was hoping it was possible using the app. I do pretty much everything on iPad now (but it won’t format). If I do have to get the old laptop out I’m presuming I would format to EXFAT?

1 hour ago, Enthuse said:

No. FAT32.

There's a short presentation video:

Ah FAT32! Then I’m definitely hoping it can be done in situ using the app., as Windows 10 won’t allow this on cards >32GB without third party software.

It works for sure!

Are you sure?

Here's my Win 10:

Looks like the card your using is a 32GB one, which Windows 10 will format to FAT32. Above this and I’m reading third party software will be needed.
