Snhow62
Has anyone tried updating their satnav themselves? Is this possible?
pragmatix
There are long threads on the subject yes it can be done but depending on your car they may be problems have a look here https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/update#/
Trent Edge
Sync2 just requires purchasing an SD card from somewhere like eBay or Ford themselves depending how much you want to pay. I think the latest is an F9 card but I might stand corrected on that one. The Sync 3 is something I think you can do yourself but I don't have Sync 3 so pragmatix link will probably help you more. DAVEWILL5
Sync 3 Update Download the upgrade to F9 maps to a USB stick (you will need a 32Gb USB stick) The link for the download is in the other long thread on this When download is complete get in the car, switch on engine, and stick the USB in the USB slot The dash screen should say something like "update starting" Probably best to go for a long long drive while the download is happening, as it take 45mins -1 hour for stage 1 to happen If all goes well after stage 1, you will get a message on the dash screen saying stop the car, switch off, get out, lock the car and wait 2 mins (leave the USB stick plugged in, do not remove) Then get back in start up and go for another drive (maybe 20-30mins) If everything has gone well you should get a message saying "update successful" and you should see F9 Maps in the settings screen If not successful (which is probable) refer to the other post on this subject which gives other thoughts and guidance. Or, just try the above process again (including a new download) and it may work this time I did mine and it took 2 attempts, but eventually we got there Good luck!! shocks
How do the maps get updated please? I have successfully downloaded the Sync3 software update into the car but noticed the maps were not updated. I have now opened the usb drive to upload to the Ford website as required.Do the maps updates just appear after this or is it more usb work lol. Trying to get over the new Runcorn bridge from the M56 the other week was a nightmare. I had to use Google Maps on my mobile in the end. thanks

Sync Firmware and the Maps are 2 separate updates. The earlier link is your guide to all thing update wise. If you do get the F9 Map update, don't expect it to be up to date, they are generally 18 months to 2 years behind road improvements and new road layouts! But not sure but could try the other one and see. I’m on sync 3.4 and maps f7. as fo what maps I’m upgrading to I have no idea it was through the ford pas and said I can update. eddiek
No it definately states that (the USB stick needs to be in (ex-fat format). Once downloaded unzip file onto USB stick and wait for it to unzip. Insert into USB on car and all being well should start updating. Can take a while so dont be in a hurry, or go for a drive.

boristhebold
Thinking of upgrading my maps from F8 to F10 but not confident I can do it, did the dealer charge a vast amount to do it.
