Focus Mk4 Engine cover...missing? (photos)

I'll just give my 2 cents on this : i had a mk2 focus with an engine cover . The manifold bursted and started a small fire that spread to the engine because of the cover .

I have a mk4 focus now and i'm glad i don't have the cover .

I live in a country that has hot summers and my engine has to breath well ...

As mentioned in one of my earlier replies in this thread, Ford UK said in a directive about 18 months ago that they left off the cover due to overheating issues. Yet when I was exchanging emails with the tech team at Ford UK a month or two ago they never mentioned it. Seems a bit odd, and frankly I don't believe that was their reason. The tech team said it was to save Ford money (or Team Value Management, as they put it, which they later explained meant to save money).

And when I spoke with various Ford dealers about ordering studs to fit a used cover, only one mentioned the directive. If overheating due to having a cover fitted was that important in the UK, surely they would have recalled the pre-face lift Mk 4 Focus.

  • You're being silly now. Of course not, but the 2023 model only comes with the two front seats as standard 🤣

  • Covers are indeed available. eBay would be a good bet, although you can get them new from Ford - £53 new, £25 eBay. Any cars from Sept 2020 build onward don't now come with engine covers which is

  • I see Nissan sorted the fuel filler problem on the Leaf and put it in the centre but I can't seem to find out what side they've put the exhaust on 🤣

I just had a Mk 4.5 engine cover delivered for my Titanium. Bought from Ebay. Some of the used covers looked okay, but I got mine from the only seller which had them new. Two minor scuffs, but definitely not a used one. And not bad value.

Because I no longer have my Mk4 Titanium I can't compare the covers, but this one is fairly soft to the touch. Not absurdly spongy. It's firm and thick but definitely has 'give'. when you press it I assume the cover on my previous Titanium was the same as this new one, unless someone can correct me because theirs is completely rigid. This new one has the correct engineering product on it. Just waiting for the studs from a dealer who's ordered them for me.

The engine cover studs finally arrived. I bought the cover new, a week ago, on Ebay.

Go with me on this... Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Internally threaded stud fits great at point A. Don't need one for point C, of course, as the cover has a white knob. I have two externally threaded studs one of which is for point D. Problem comes with point B. What is it? It's plastic and doesn't seem to unscrew. The underside of the cover has a hole which shows a stud head should fit into it.

Not only is there nowhere to fit a stud at point B, part of the cover (circled in red, near the stud hole) has a bit about 1.25 inches long which prevents the cover being properly fitted at that point. There's a cable in the way, which can be moved a bit, but not enough to make enough space (circled in green).

I don't think I've got the wrong cover. I checked the engineering part number with Ford UK before buying. Thinking of cutting off the bit of the cover which sticks down. Three points of attachment should be enough.

(I was told by Ford UK I'd need 3 studs. But I think one of the studs might be already fitted below the part labelled B)

If no one knows what the part is at point B, does anyone have a photo of a 2018 Ecoboost engine without the cover fitted?

Please ignore my comment above. The cover is the correct material.

I'd appreciate any views on this, if you happen to see my comment and photos above. 😉  I think it might just be a case of cutting off the part of the cover I mention. But the question remains, why doesn't it fit, when it's supposed to be the right part.  I will contact a dealer tomorrow, but always good get views of folk here if you have time.
