There’s some woman in my life I wish I’d swerved!

Swerve support 😳

Our Mk4's have that as well as part of the Pre-Collision Assist but it is called Evasive Steering.

A lot of things in cars are not car manufacturer specific, they are designed and made by component manufacturers and are are often tweaked by car  manufacturers but are essentially the same. I would bet that is the case with these systems.

Can you get run them over mode, probably called serves them right, not swerve to the right.

I’ve not spotted that. Lane keeping is a switch on the end of the indicator stalk. Stays off too which is good. Even when it’s on it doesn’t do much. You know all this. The Skoda lane keeping is verging on dangerous.

🧐 is evasive steering just what Ford call lane keeping?

Lane Keeping is completely different. The following is an extract from the Handbook.

Evasive Steering Assist (If Equipped)
If your vehicle is rapidly approaching a stationary vehicle or a vehicle traveling in the same direction as yours, the system is designed to help you steer around the vehicle.

The system only activates when all of the following occur:

  • Active braking and evasive steering assist are switched on in the information display.
  • The system detects a vehicle ahead and starts to apply the brakes.
  • You significantly turn the steering wheel in an attempt to steer around the vehicle.
After you turn the steering wheel in an attempt to avoid a crash with the vehicle ahead, the system applies additional steering torque to help you steer around the vehicle. After you pass the vehicle, the system applies steering torque when you turn the steering wheel to steer back into the lane. The system deactivates after you fully pass the vehicle.
Note:   The system does not automatically steer around a vehicle. If you do no turn the steering wheel, the system does not activate.
Note:   The system does not activate if the distance to the vehicle ahead is too small and a crash cannot be avoided.
Switching Evasive Steering Assist On and Off
  1. Using the information display controls on the steering wheel, select Driver Assist..
  1. Select Pre-Collision Assist.
  1. Switch Evasive Steering on or off.
Note:   Active braking and evasive steering assist turn on each time you switch the ignition on.
Note:   If you turn active braking off, evasive steering assist also turns off.

Sounds like it'll rip your arms off! 😮

The Focus has the option of either just warning OR warning and applying steering I think.

I don’t think I have that evasive option. 🧐 Is it something worth keeping on? If I can find it!!
in theory these safety features are great , in real life I’m dubious. @Tizer

If it is switchable then it will be an option under the Pre-Collision Assist setting. I will have a look at my car tonight when I'm going out in it.

Personally I would not switch any safety related feature off except the Lane Assist one although I do sometimes switch that one on when I'm doing a very long Motorway drive and there is a chance that I might get tired or bored or just generally brain dead, having that annoying me keeps me focused.

I tend to switch lane keep assist off on my hyundai car as it is quite annoying. But with adaptive cruise I don't mind lane follow assist . That's a bit more subtle and pretty much steers for you on motorways etc. Still needs to detect hands on steering wheel.

Apart from lane keeping I’ve set collision avoidance sensitivity to low. Sync 3 is pretty straight forward compared to this Skoda!

I checked mine earlier and I don't have the option to turn it off, so maybe it is only the cars with Adaptive Cruise that have it Alex.

So instead of clipping the corner of a stationary vehicle or a vehicle traveling in the same direction as yours, it will throw you into the path of a vehicle coming in the opposite direction???

I think the consensus is most of this new tech is risky AF.
My pals week old Skoda Superb he says has braked itself a couple of times , he’s not yet figured out why

From my reading of the Information in the Handbook and the other Information on the Pre-Collision Assist system and given that it only helps the steering if it detects that the driver is trying to avoid an object I would doubt it would go against the drivers wishes and deliberately steer the car into the path of another unless that is what the driver wanted to do.

I expect you may be right, but I was just going by the extract that you posted previously, which notably didn't say "the system will check for oncoming vehicles first".

Re my focus having potentially a gearbox problem (the dealership have had the car almost a month now)  the apps sent me a few messages today.
Actually eleven identical messages ! But a new location, so someone’s doing something

Reckon an insurance replacement would be quicker than gearbox repair at this rate.

It’s at a gearbox specialist in the East end.
About competitors, found a Lexus EV that was a real possibility. Turns out it uses CHAdeMO charging system, I really don’t know why. It’s getting phased out globally. 1hr 20mins at a fast charger 20-80%   While almost all other EVs charge the same amount in 20mins. A deal breaker unfortunately. Quality car too.

Alex. The UX300e has 2 types of charging.

Type 2 AC and chademo. Just thought I'd inform you. The latest has been updated with upto 40% more range. Its a small car so inherently accommodates a smaller battery. The UX is a ruddy good car and I mean ruddy good. Have you not considered the UX250h? Effin brilliant car. I've had them as courtesy cars and one on a 4 day loan.

Yeah, that's bizarre having chademo. Only the Nissan's had chademo and they stopped using it too now. 50kw max speed is slow by today's elec car standards.

bet they don't sell many.

So type 2 AC is for home charging? Which would be all I’d need 90% of the time. My circumstances, I currently have a drive way but if I had to charge at a public charging point I thought CHAdeMO was being phased out? I read it can take an hour longer than CCS. Which I could live with as I rarely do long distance but if the charging points don’t work for CHAdeMO that’s a deal breaker. The hybrid Lexus UX 250h f sport design was a possibility but turns out the 300e would be cheaper advance payment then also cheaper running costs. It all comes down to the CHAdeMO charging point situation. I’ve got until next summer when my lease ends.

Chademo is generally available at most fast charging points. The limiting factor is the max 50kw speed. Thats a max for the car regardless of connector type. Most new cars now charge at  minimum 100-150 kWh on ccs.

Alot will depend on how long your journeys are and how often you will 200+ miles (100 each way) away from home. Have you checked out zap map applying filters for chademo only to see the availability d pending on where you might likely drive too?

If any long distance it’d be Glasgow to visit a friend in the south east. I’d have to stop twice I think. Could add a couple of hours onto what is already a c*** of a drive! Are CHAdeMO chargers not getting phased out? Google seems to think so 🧐
