Yes, whatever your views on EVs, that's one aspect that I've found impressive when being left in the dust!

Not an SUV fan though, and always preferred smaller cars, so quite interested to see what upcoming "supermini - size" EVs like the new Renault 5 turn out to be like.

How about a yangwang? 🤣🤣

I'm afraid it is. A sub-brand of BYD.

I’ve not logged on to the forum in a long time,  I’m into extra extended time on the focus lease! After a test drive and a lot of thought I’m going for an EV. Got the charging point fitted already. Hoping for delivery in January. Can’t wait!

Waiting is something you will have to get very used to with an EV. 🙁

Kona? I didn’t test drive one but I gave it some consideration (watched YouTube videos!)

How’s it going?

Overnight charging, 250 miles for a fiver. Worst case scenario is having to use an ultra fast public charger, that works out roughly the same price as petrol. Should save me a few bob

I think @unofix might have been referring to queueing up waiting for a working charger to become available .

Going well thanks, got no intentions of going back to petrol or diesel cars again or ford either.

I'm having to wait a few months for a Volvo.

So , handed the focus back yesterday 😑

It’s been a lot of fun to drive, 76,000miles , a new auto gearbox at 45k or something. Apart from that just wear and tear. I like fords they tick a lot of boxes. One thing that puts me off is all the stuff about wet belts being  unreliable and Ford uk not doing anything about it. I’ve gone from a car just getting from A to B to a bit of a car enthusiast. Thanks for answering all my silly questions! Tom, Unofix, Stephen , Roger and the other regulars who I forget their names, best wishes for the future! As we say up here .. awrabest

Good luck with the new one, Alex. You can always let us know how it's going - fewer and fewer Ford owners on here anyway!😀

Good morning. Haven’t logged on in ages , it never stops this forum! That’s 10 months I’ve had this Volvo EV . Really impressed with it, range is far off the manufacturers claims though. Up to 295 miles they claim, realistically it’s 220 miles a bit more in summer. Doesn’t handle half as good as a focus but I knew to expect that. 0-60 in 5 seconds with 270bhp it’s pretty quick. That’s the single motor version too. The twin motor does it in 3.5seconds ! It’s very comfortable compared to the STL sports suspension. McPherson strut on the front and multi link on the back. It’s not got an instrument cluster behind the steering wheel just a big screen in the middle Tesla style. Soon get used to it. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to petrol or diesel. I found my old focus online , I traded in in Glasgow it was sold in Essex I couldn’t see how much for. It’s a desert island blue STLX SD69 KVU 75k miles. Whoever’s bought it it was incredibly well looked after, not just full dealer servicing  , I never floored it once!
Is part of this group for explorer and capri owners now? I’ve not really looked around yet.

So the Capri Owners Club is just petrolheads taking the ***** out of EVs and EV owners 😂 I’m not surprised in the slightest

Nice to hear from you Alex! Just looked back through the thread and couldn't spot which Volvo it was? EX30?

I'm keeping an eye on EV developments in the smaller car sector (roughly Fiesta equivalent) myself.

Had a good look at the Renault 5 recently but despite spending half an hour in the local dealership failed to find anyone who was interested in speaking to me, let alone get a test drive.

The forthcoming VW ID2 family could also be of interest, but given that my recent experiences of the local VW dealership** are pretty much like Renault, I don't hold out much hope of getting any interest there either!

**It - and the sister Audi dealership - used to be independent and excellent (had 2 Audis from them in the past) but now part of a big chain.

Ironically my local Ford outlet have always been very good - but Ford have dropped them for new car sales!

Good to hear your enjoying the ev experience. Until you drive or own one you will probably not understand how good and easy to live with they are in general.

We have 3 on the drive.

Does your Volvo have heat pump?

Hi Roger , yes an EX30. It’s an Ultra so it’s got the toys ! Even if some of them are at an experimental stage lol

The shortlist was Hyundai Kona , Cupra Born and the Volvo EX30. The Volvo spec , and I felt build quality too was the main reasons. Things are moving pretty quickly with batteries, Nissan have produced a replacement battery for the Leaf that’s same size physically but holds double the power. The Puma EV  I know nothing about as it looks awful imo. The EX30 is a small SUV but kinda like a hatchback too. I’m saving £100-£200 a month on fuel. About dealerships some salespeople have an attitude problem as if they don’t need the sale, bizarre. My local Ford dealership was good too. If you’re contemplating getting an EV, if you have a driveway then absolutely go for it, if not then wait for hydrogen!

Most of the forum members will be dead if they wait for hydrogen. 😂😂

Hello Ian , yes it has a heat pump.  I know in the kona heat pump was standard but that changed ? To an option for £500 ? I’ve nothing to compare it too as it’s my first EV, it’ll be this winter I’ll find how useful it is or isn’t. I can precondition the cabin through the app   , takes about 2% if it’s not plugged in. About 3 or 4 miles of range. I remember hearing Kia Hyundai range claims are realistic while all other manufacturers aren’t at all. Is that the case? 300 mile range …. Actually does 300 miles ?

Yep. In summer  normally 300 or there abouts. Me plodding to work and back can get a bit more.

Last winter was around 270-280 miles.

Hammering it on the motorway in winter and 240 miles is the worst I've had

Currently averaging 4.7mile/kWh this week just gone. So still not far off 300mile range , not bad for end Oct.

This is where the Volvo is quite poor really, 200 miles at 90%.
The kona has around 200bhp iirc , has yours got a heat pump? And what size battery ? Mines 67kw but 63kw useable. Extra 70 horses probably to blame
