Engine knock

Streetka deluxe 1600.    80,000 miles.   Started getting a knocking from the engine on load and now, as it is getting worse, can just get it by revving up at rest.   Not when cruising and not on the overrun.    I would have said big end but modern cars do not run their big ends at only 80,000 miles and there is no low oil pressure light (and, yes, there is oil in the engine!).   Loose big ends also knock on the overrun usually.    Anyone have any ideas on what else it might be before I throw the thing away?  Cam chain perhaps?   Some other drive in the engine?
