That's what I thought - so all you can do with the Android version is view settings and diagnostic codes, and then clear diagnostic codes if they come up?

You can also do some service procedures with the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle and the mobile app. For example I’ve reset the BMS and put the electronic parking brake into service mode with FORScan on my phone.

For anyone interested, here’s how the climate screens and home screen buttons look after enabling them on Sync 3.4. Dual zone working properly, driver and passenger buttons controlling their respectiv

No, it’s all the right way round on the Mk4 👍🏼

  • Research, research, research. If you rush at it you will brick modules.

Hi guys, I found something for you. This is a video - how to enable launch control in Focus mk4 without a performace pack.
I haven't checked if it works on a regular MK4 yet, but it works with ST :)
I will be posting other interesting upgrades on YouTube, so stay tuned.

I’ve been playing around with FORScan and have enabled a few things so far. It’s fun just seeing what can be done. 😁

Just enabled my climate on Sync today! After picking the car up yesterday! Thanks for this!!

There are two ways of doing the changes:

Module Configuration

Module Configuration (Asbuilt)

When you enter the modules in Asbuilt mode you will just see a bunch of codes

Splash screen change for example will be 7D0-02-01 you change the relevant code within the box to change the function - sometimes you change a 0 to a 1

In normal module configuration mode there is a list of functions with a drop box next to it

Example BCMii - LH Fog Lamp usage - The drop down box will list:

No Fogs or None

Fog Lamp only

Fog and cornering lamp

Fog and cornering and DRL

Fog and High Beam (Bambi Mode)

Fog as DRL etc etc

They're all dependant on functionality based on the vehicle

You just select the function you want, click OK

Then at the bottom of the screen select write all.

So you can go into APIM and do all the changes you want and then just click write all and it's done.

Just remember to save the standard configuration on your laptop (I title it "REG number/Module/Asbuilt) before you make any changes

Just make sure you have a good quality lead, Chinese ELM327 clones can cause issues an OBDLink EX is not expensive and very reliable.

Just research, research before going for it.

If anything goes wrong and you brick the module (e.g. because it can't understand what you've asked it to do) just reload the abuilt settings and click write all and it will come back.

If you get "operation failed" half way through then your lead is no good.

Some items require programming in Asbuilt mode only, using codes

E.G. Auto High Beam had to be coded (sometimes multiple times) in the following modules

BCM, IPC (Cluster), ABS, Camera Module and Power Steering module.

It took months trying to get it to work and it was only after finding out that it needed to be programmed in the power steering module that I finally got it to work

I hope I've made sense and this will help anyone.

Do NOT attempt to update firmware on any modules if you have a cheap lead, please, you will brick the module or worse, the car.

So, do you need codes to do the auto high beam changes? If so, does anybody know what they are for a MK4 focus and do the codes differ per model/year?

Also, do you really need to charge the car battery when doing this? Appreciate its a precautionary thing…but I used to make changes like this on my Audi TT years ago and never needed to do it.

Does the focus do something weird in terms of draining it when you run FORscan?!

Or is it just an unlikely event or dies? (I’ve never in my life ever had a car battery stop working on me unless it’s years old where it likely needed changing anyway).

Now the following information is used AT YOUR OWN RISK.

First back up and save your 'AsBuilt' file before making any changes. These setting are for the Mk4 Focus, not for the new Mk4.5

Enable Auto High Beam

ASBUILT:
IPMA 706-01-01 - xxxx x5xx xx | xxxx x9xx xx
IPC 720-01-01 - xxxE xxxx xA
SCCM 724-02-01 - xxxx 70xx xx
BdyCM 726-11-04:
- Halogen: xxx1 xxxx xx
- Full led lights: xxxx xxCx xx
BdyCM 726-12-02 - x1xx xxxx xx

Not necessarily when running FORScan but with just the Ignition on there can be a Current Draw of around 18 Amps with Auto lights on. Switching the lights off will lessen the load a bit but it will still be a lot and will soon drain your Battery and you can brick your car.

Even a standard 4Amp charger is not enough if you are doing very serious programming, the Current draw will be more than that.

Confirmed !

This is my car yesterday with the engine off.

What version of Forscan is required for the climate changes and which lead works best? Thanks in advance

Yes and some people can't understand why some of us think that using Start/Stop is not the cleverest thing to do😀

Any Windows laptop version of FORScan will work.

Personally I'd only recommend using the 'vLinker FS' cable on cars from 2013 onwards.

On offer this week only £29.99 from Amazon.

So….are we saying that before I can use my £35 cable to do some free stuff with my car I need to spend a £100 plus (or more) on a car battery charger?

If I knew that before I wouldn’t have bothered 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Free for laptop use. You can download the standard version, or pay I think about £12 for a 1 year extended licence which allows things like programming keys

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

I literally intended on loading FORscan, backing up the modules I want to edit, changing everything (where possible) as on page 1 first post of this thread (like Colinmcg71), and turning off again (turn around that in what, 20 mins?!).

No intention of doing anything else.

Are we thinking that’s too much to do and may likely drain the whole battery?

Probably not even that long…

personally… I don’t run mine on a charger if I’m only doing a quick tweak.

when I’m trying to crack things that haven’t been worked out yet… that’s when I run a charger.

everything is at your own risk tho, if you’re happy not running on a charger then you take the risk if it all goes wrong, and you may end up with a few people saying “I told you so”

don’t forget too that your car will automatically turn off after a period of time. I was VERY lucky not to brick my mates focus last week when it turned the ignition off while I was reading, not writing a module! So be careful with that too!

🤣🤣🤣  ...... yes

The car will give you the warning "Switch OFF to save battery or start engine" after about 7 or 8 minutes. If you ignore the warning the car will turn itself off after about 2 minutes.

Connect up a standard 4 Amp charger and make sure the headlights are off all of the time and you will be fine to do the programming you need.

Woah. crazy. I’ve never heard anything like it! I used to spend literally hours with my laptop plugged into my TT messing around with the settings. Never ever turned off and never crossed my mind either!

So guessing then you can’t turn the engine on at all when connected? Theory being you could just stop the engine when you need to “write the changes” then unplug….

It's not so much a case of draining the Battery to zero, I believe if the Voltage drops below a certain level then the car can be bricked if you are in the middle of programming something.

Lots of people do what you Intend doing without problems but it is not risk free so it is sensible to lessen the risk as much as you can.

I sat in the car last week, at night, with the headlights on dipped beam for over an hour while it did the sync update and never once had it given me a “switch off to save battery” message. In fact over the month I’ve owned the car I’ve sat in it messing around with settings and dashcams and all sorts for 30mins or longer….never seen any battery message. Does it only show this when using FORscan/plugged into ODB port?

That may be possible but I'd not recommend doing it, as it's not what FORScan is expecting. Also while programming it will ask you to cycle the ignition a number of times. So the short answer is don't do it.
