2007 1.6 Petrol Gearbox Leaking @ Selector Shaft

Hi all this forum comes highly recommended by a friend so hopefully someone can help.

I have a leaking gear selector shaft seal on my 1.6 petrol focus, its a '57 plate LX, nothing major (yet) but I have spoken to my garage who have said they need to remove and strip down the gearbox to access the seals from inside. Big job then which was a surprise to say the least!!!

Has any one here had the same problem with their 1.6 who can confirm if this is the only way to repair the leak?

Many thanks in advance :)

When it happened on my old MK2 I followed This guide and it went well. Do not buy an aftermarket seal or you will be doing it twice not recommended the OEM ones are cheap enough from ford.

Hi Ian, what year was your old mk2 focus? Did you have much trouble removing the old seal?

I've had the selectors off today down to the point of removing the old seal but it just will bot come out as if it is indeed fitted from inside the box. I only ask to try to rule out if the designs of these boxes differ as the garage were not 100% if it would need to come out or not. They have referred us to a specialist who does all their box work. Topped up the oil while I was there though 🙂

Mines was a 2008 MK2.5 sigma/duratec 1.6. Yours should have the same IB5 gearbox. The seal popped off no problem.
