I can't understand it either.  It seems to be part of the adaptive cruise functionality but I have no idea why it's also implemented on non-adaptive spec Ford models.  Or why it's not an option that could be changed in the dash menu.  After all, it's a convenience feature rather than a safety feature so there shouldn't be any legal issues.  I was hoping to find that it could be disabled on the Mk7/8 Golf using VCDS but haven't found anything online suggesting that it can be yet.  I did find this thread interesting though...totally opposing views of cruise control usage.  Clutch doesn't disable Cruise Control (?) | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum

I have a MY18 MK4 focus and the cruise control does clutch cancel, it may have been changed in the MHEV models?

There was a discussion on this when I first complained about it back in March last year.  It's not just MHEV models but seems to have changed during the Mk4 production.  Mk8 Fiesta's also lost the clutch cancel I believe.

My 2019 Focus ST does not cancel cruise when you use the clutch. I like it because you can change down a gear for hills and it carries on.

Although tbh, it's not so much an issue with 420Nm of torque 😛

My 2018 Fiesta ST didn't cancel either, but my 2015 Mk3.5 Focus ST did.

be very careful what you wish for. Your trusty old 1.2 has stood the test of time, easy and cheap to maintain, a simple straight forward little engine.

don't just assume that any newer engine must be better than yours.  Faster, yes!  More economical, maybe.  But modern engines seem to have lost the refinement, ease of driveability and general 'solid' feeling of 2000's engines

as Tom has said, new engines may have some plus points but is it a case Ecoboom and bust ?

It may be that the Ecoboom thing is a little overdone given the huge numbers sold, but it certainly seems to be the case that correct servicing is absolutely critical on the original wet belt versions.

We don't really know yet whether the newer version in the Mk 4 will have similar issues, but again I would be ensuring servicing is done correctly.

Considering the oil pump is still run by wetbelt, I'd guess they'll be failing after a few years of missed services, wrong oil and upselling oil flush...

And confusing the 'old school' EcoBoost haters expecting the cambelt to be disintegrating and finding them to be chain driven...

Just thinking about it further, by the time we know for sure we'll all be living in EV Utopia and won't be allowed to buy another one anyway!😀

Hi Rodger, there are those who are pro-ecoboost 1.0 (true supporters) and there are those who are anti-ecoboost 1.0 (disbelievers). Surprisingly very much the same situation as regards Covid vaccines.

Neither side will ever convince the other that they are right or wrong. The only thing that will prove who was correct is 'Time'

In 5 years time will the 'new improved' ecoboost 1.0 be dependable and reliable ?

In 5 years time will the Covid vaccines have rid the world of Covid ?

It’s worth pointing out that although branded the same the ecoboosts are not all from the same family.

The 1.0 and 1.5 3 cylinder are a “from the ground-up” Ford design. Each is from a different platform the 1.0 is code named fox, the 1.5 is dragon.

The 1.6 and 1.5 4 cylinder are turbocharged evolutions of the old 1.6 NA Ford Sigma design.

The 2.0 and 2.3 are evolutions of Mazda L engines.

Yes, good point, Alex. Presumably the revised 1.0 is still referred to as Fox, even though it now has a lot in common with the 1.5 (chain cam, reversed head, etc)?

Better not start that one in this thread!😀

I doubt we'll be around to know the final answer to at least one of those questions, bearing in mind Edward Jenner demonstrated inoculation against smallpox in 1796 but the WHO only certified that the disease was eradicated in 1980.😀

On the other question, dunno. I'm not really a fan of any downsized petrol tbh, I much preferred a turbodiesel of around 2 litres but changing circumstances combined with emission measures like dpf means that's no longer a viable option for me.

But in the interest of balance, it does seem to me that the 1.0 ecoboost is not as bad as some suggest, provided that it's serviced properly. In that respect, I'm still amazed that Ford extended the service interval on the wet belt version when the Mk 8 Fiesta was introduced, without, as far as I've been able to ascertain, any change to the specification of the engine or oil.

No.

I spoke to my dealer on 20th January and enquired about changing my current Focus ST Line X 1.0 125. He said I could get the ST Line Vignale 1.0 155 for the same monthly price I am paying now but there would be quite a wait. He contacted me the other day and said my car was scheduled for build in March!! I hope he means March 2022 😂

That's exactly what I do in the MK3 Tom. I can't imagine what possible reason they have for deleting the clutch-cancel. From what I've read about the later models I'm more determined than ever to hang on to our old ones, even though I'm going to be hit with a big bill for a wetbelt change this year.

Am I the only one that likes this ? I live in Mallorca. This is an island. It has some gradient when you go  on the highway. Now it is so much more comfortable to change to a lower gear and not cancel cruise control. I find this really useful. It is not that hard to press cancel when you no longer want cruice control. Actually i find it easier to always use cancel even when i used my old 2018 fiesta. Never have i ever used the clutch to cancel cruise control. Your driving is quite interesting 🤨

Our Focus does. It's not very often I use CC but did use it the other day on the M180 sat at 65mph then came to roadworks with a 50 limit so I toggled with the button to drop it to 50mph the and as soon as I pressed the clutch to drop it into 5th as there was an incline ahead it cancelled the CC.

Hi everyone

I was at my ford dealer today looking at placing an order for a ST Line Vignale. I was advised 6 months for delivery but when the sales guy checked the schedule he had access to, it said Focus builds are currently postponed due to sync 4 chip shortages with a TBC for the builds to start again. From the schedule it appeared that the only car ford are building right now is the Puma

Cant see a new focus arriving in 6 months honestly

Im not overly keen on the sync 4 in the vignale now I've seen one up close this week. Just seems to big a screen for the dash.

It's not just the Vignale either.  All facelifts except the Trend get the 13.2" screen.

In that case I've  only  seen one facelift so far.  Fiesta face lift I've seen more of.

I was hoping that the newer larger screen blended in better than the" Ipad " that is in the Mk4, is that not the case ?

It's not blended or shaped at all now, literally does look like an iPad glued on!

So basically the facelift MK4 -> MK4.5 is all about this huge Sync 4 screen for which they dont have chips? Why they bothered with FL at all - I dont get it...

It had better be strong glue to hold something that big!

VW have put me off a Golf and it's siblings with screens and no buttons, now Ford seem to be following suit. Car manufacturers seem determined at the moment to produce cars I don't want to buy.

I'm surprised that so far there hasn't been official concern about the safety aspects - they're forever going on about using a mobile in a car but this stuff seems far more distracting, particularly if, like some vehicles, you have to go through several layers to adjust something simple like the temperature. I was watching something on "5th Gear Recharged" recently and VBH wanted to adjust the steering wheel in a Tesla. Jason Plato who was a passenger had to dive into the menus to find the instructions on how to do it!

Indeed!  Realistically though, these massive screens are here to stay as we move into the EV generation...so much cheaper and easier to manufacture and wire in than individual buttons everywhere.  And one screen can be used for every spec of vehicle regardless of the options fitted.  If safety issues are raised, they won't revert to old school manual systems, they'll just put a screen lock on while the vehicle is in motion!

I have a feeling part of my screen issues is caused by a worsening astigmatism.  I'm hoping it can be rectified, or at least improved, with a set of specs, otherwise I'll have very little chance at driving modern cars.

It's more about the front end than the interior, but I completely agree that releasing the facelift this year seems pointless.  It's usually done roughly every 3 years to make people buy (or finance!) the new model.  But if you physically can't build many of the new model, it seems pretty futile at the moment!
