Post has now been locked as it has crossed the line and deteriorated dramatically from its original intention - a tribute to the Ford Fiesta !

Well, I had the "24 hour" test drive this morning but I'd had quite enough after 3 or so! As mentioned earlier, my objective was really to see if the 155 suited the Puma better, which I felt it d

Yeah, heard that today at work. There dropping it as there's no profit in them

Hardly surprising I suppose as the Cologne plant is switching to EV production. It already looked as if it would be 2024/5 anyway as the current version reached the end of its model cycle.

Not sure about the no demand though. Loads of folks on here still waiting for their cars and I have spoken to a number of people who were interested in buying one and found they were being pushed towards the Puma by sales staff.

Looks like the Fiesta has reached the end of the line and production will end mid 2023.

The dealer told me this was their thoughts back in April as there was never a plan for a full electric Fiesta.

Mentioned it here I believe but now it is reality.

Got a similar thread going in general chat.

Tbf it is Fiesta specific... :whistling:

We knew it was coming but I'm a bit surprised they're stopping production so soon.  Was expecting more like 2025 myself.

I went for an St3 Fiesta in April. Was steered away by the dealer as they were only 5 door, extras had been removed so that made my mind up to go for a Puma ST instead.

Shame but production is ending.

I think the Focus, S-Max and Galaxy are on borrowed time too. End of an era..

It’s as though Ford deliberately wanted to make the Fiesta less appealing before killing it off by removing features and options but hiking prices.

It was only a few years ago that Ford were saying how customers wanted more luxury car features in small cars, then with the Mk 8.5 they seem to have forgotten that.

What I don’t get it why every manufacturer are binning small efficient cars and struggling to electrify larger ones which obviously will have less range due to their size and weight and will cost more.
Obviously they make more money on larger vehicles but soon they’re going to price themselves out the market as people struggle to afford new cars.

Why not focus on creating small efficient vehicles similar to the Smart Fortwo, Twizzy or similar which would cater for a lot of people who just need a small vehicle for local trips but need more convenience, space and security than an electric bike? They’d be a lot more affordable around £10k rather than starting nearer £30k.

Yes, 5 doors only is fine by me as that's what I go for anyway, but they've certainly pared down the spec, as you say (no heated door mirrors, etc). Also I see you get Sync 2.5 as standard now, Sync 3 with Sat nav etc being £600 or so extra, although with Apple car play &  Android auto connectivity included in Sync 2.5 I probably wouldn't bother.

And they've dropped the 155ps option, so anyone wanting more than 125 ps, would have to go for the  ST.

Agreed - some seem to be aware of that as posted elsewhere.

Vaguely on topic. I keep seeing comments from Stellantis group expressing concern that all this technology, and the push to EVs, is going to drive ordinary people out of the new car market. Citroen in particular seem to keep coming up with concepts for simpler, less tech-heavy vehicles (where legislation allows) which might keep prices under control.

As they say, it's not altruism, they are in business to make money, but they can't do that if most of the population can't afford the product. I thought this was an interesting idea from Citroen:

They don't make any money out of small cheap cars.

Does seem a shame to bin such a great car.   My 17 plate Titanium X seems to have just about anything anyone could want and it was a reasonable price.   Easy to understand why it was a best seller.

Just seen/heard on the national news, the chinese or korean's will make it under a different name as they do with most things. To small to put an electric motor in it, why not a couple of AAA batteries  in the glove box 🤣

It was inevitable.

The love of SUVs and the current EV platforms basically being skateboards that a car is sat on top of, means a Puma style car is more suited going forward.

I don't know if they'll keep the Puma nameplate, or drop that too when the ICE platform is retired.

Ford's VW MEB based cars may go with totally new names.

Yes, I think it was clear that both the Fiesta and Focus would be phased out in 2025 at the latest as they reached the end of their model life and Ford either closed the relevant plants or switched to EV production. Only surprise in these recent announcements is the possibility of next year, though from the various items I've seen discussions are still ongoing and the final date may not yet be decided.

Like it or not, we need to bear in mind that manufacturers will shortly be facing penalties under zero emission vehicle mandates and these, along with Euro 7 emissions regulations due 2025, will make it increasingly uneconomic to manufacture ICE cars.

May be an image of car, road and text that says "LAD BIBLE FORD FIESTA SET TO BE AXED AFTER 46 YEARS YEARS"

Was going to 'start' this thread but see I'm well behind! LOL My first ever 'new' car was bought in 1982, a wonderful Mk1 Fiesta XR2. Cost me £4995 which I had saved for years to buy outright. I loved that car. Sadly in the days before camera phones so can't even find a picture of the old girl. Looked lovely resplendid in her silver paint, boy racer stripes, and a great rare RS bodykit I fitted!

Below a simple 'google' image of one...

Ah well, I'm picking up my 4th Fiesta on Saturday so I guess that will be the last one - end of an era

Depends on how long you keep it on the road.

I meant my last one.  Unlikely to change it before production ends
