More countries should implement a heavy car tax like France.

Absolutely. I've always thought that more emphasis on penalizing vehicles for weight and size would have brought a "virtuous circle" of lower weight, better fuel consumption and lowered emissions more quickly, perhaps giving more breathing space to come up with a better long term solution.

Well, I had the "24 hour" test drive this morning but I'd had quite enough after 3 or so! As mentioned earlier, my objective was really to see if the 155 suited the Puma better, which I felt it d

This tweet from Ford confirms it.

Just had a quick glance at the reactions to Ford's tweet - pretty much the same as on here!😃

I’ve just done a day trip to Bletchley Park in the 2021 Fiesta ST-Iine 125 MHEV and got 61.8mpg average over 164 miles on the A3, M25, A5 route with a bit of local driving both ends. That equates to about 8p per mile. Crazy for a petrol!

I just wonder how that would compare to a fully electric at the ‘normal’ home charging rate?

I do feel Ford are jumping in with both feet when they have a perfect model to add a Hybrid then electric motor, taking it nice and slow to see what happens with E energy prices and other technologies like hydrogen over the next few years.

Sorry, bad maths! It’s nearer 12.4p per mile, still not bad at current prices for a petrol.

Although I understand it is based on the Fiesta platform and is hence pretty good, I've never been drawn towards the tall  obese-looking Kuga or Puma.

I wonder what the news will do to prices of remaining new Fiestas ?  Will there be heavy (or heavier than normal) discounting in the showrooms to 'move the metal', encouraged perhaps by sales falling off as buyers not wanting to order an obsolete model, or will the increasing scarcity of Fiestas drive the price of (used) cars up ?

I won't be buying a Puma or Kuga either as they are ugly looking cars.

I did buy my Fiesta mk 7.5 at a large discount because the Mk 8 was already available and on display in the showroom at the main dealers. Not sure whether that'll happen with the obsolete Fiesta. Maybe people will be happy to pay full price while they can still get one.

It's a shame! I don't understand why they gave it a facelift? it's only been out for 8 months or so? Im guessing it was suppose to last until 2024? lol

Wonder how long the ecoboost unit will be on sale for? I remember when it was introduced on the facelifted MK7's. Cant believe that was 10 years ago! Remember these pics? lol

Maybe had a backlog of parts they needed to use up, not including chips LOL

I'm thinking they'll close the order books at some stage and sell remaining Fiesta's at current prices.  I also thought it might increase the resale value.  Who knows? I'm picking up my new ST-Line tomorrow so should get a few years out if that before I consider what's next

Crazy decision by Ford to discontinue the Fiesta. While no longer on top of the sale charts they still sell well.  Also why not make an EV Fiesta? Surely an EV Fiesta would be more efficient than an EV Puma due to the better drag coefficient. As most people are saying not everyone wants a ***** CUV or SUV.

Main problem with an EV Fiesta would be battery space.  The range would have to be fairly low which would put a lot of people off.  They'd also have to cost a lot more than the current Fiesta.

Easier and cheaper just to borrow VW's EV platform to make a smallish EV.  But it'll have to be a slightly odd shape and fairly tall.

Stellantis seem to have managed ok with the e-Corsa (1433mm tall, v. Fiesta Mk 8 at 1476mm I think) and e-208 which have ranges of about 220 miles. This will increase next year when they get a bigger battery which also ups the power from 134 to 157ps I believe.

Difference is Stellantis invested in a small car platform which will accommodate ICE and electrified powertrains, Ford haven't.

Certainly pricey though - thick end of £30k at the mo.

When Renault replace the Zoe with the new 5 next year though, I have seen mentions of starting prices from under £20k so that will be interesting.

Ah, that's a good point. Renault were at one point selling you the car, but only leasing the battery, which kept the headline cost down.

I recall we had some discussion on here a while back.on the effect the conditions of lease had on repair costs. There was a story in the press at the time of a chap having to pay thousands for a new inverter because the battery lease conditions forbade a used or reconditioned unit, it had to be new.

I think they've stopped doing the lease thing here now, though.

The Corsa and e 208 are getting a reputation for poor range as soon as temps drops .

Surely global warming will take care of that?? LOL

Spotted this for the current (no pun intended) Corsa-e on the Drive Electric leasing site - quite a drop between summer/winter as you suggest - presumably why it's getting that bigger battery for 2023:

Vehicle range

There are a variety of factors that impact an electric vehicle’s range, chief of which is the outside temperature. This is why at DriveElectric, we not only provide an average ‘real-world’ range, but mileage estimates for both Winter and Summer, too.

Official vehicle range (WLTP)
223 miles
Summer 'real world' range
205 miles
Combined 'real world' range
175 miles
Winter 'real world' range
145 miles

thats a hell of a drop off due to the weather. Does it say what temp thats down to, or will it get worse should it freeze ?

Not that I could find. They do give the same sort of indication for each model available to lease though, so it's quite an interesting site to have a look at:

I remember when I was a kid, my Dad used to get a bit more life out of "dead" batteries by warming them up, so maybe he was onto something back then.

Entirely concur! When the batteries went in my transistor radio in the 70s, I could get another week of listening to Radio Luxembourg by placing them on top of a room radiator. (health & safety hadn't been invented then LOL)

Alot of inappropriate activities occured before health and safety police intervened. Gone are the days of turning the propane space heater on the bottle to warm the gas up so it came out faster. I remember those good old days in the workshop.

I will start a new thread on this topic.

Absolutely. Sixty years ago when portable radios used valves and had a separate high voltage and a low voltage battery my granny made them last longer by warming them in the oven!
