Garage says charge at 58% is acceptable.

No, that is too low.

Car got run on 8 hr journey last week, so surely it should be more than that. It’s run regularly.

Modern "Smart" charging systems, which are actually very "Dumb" means that the battery gets very little charge when the car is on a steady long drive. The real meaningful charge to the battery only occurs when the engine is slowing down, (engine over run) and then the alternator will provide a good charge as the system uses the loading of the alternator to increase engine braking.

You need to accept that you will have to use a smart battery charger about every 5 to 6 weeks (depending on your driving type) in order to maintain a good 'State Of Charge'. It is very sadly what they call progress.

Has anyone else had a problem with battery charge? Garage says charge at 58% is acceptable. Car got run on 8 hr journey last week, so surely it should be more than that. It’s run regularly. Things started not working , aircon shut off , radio, demisters not working.Has anyone else had this problem?

If aricon stopped working I am afraid the car has estimated the 12V battery to be below 50%. Unfortunatelly, the car controls its consumers based on this estimation and not the one from the garage.

As suggested, it might be good to hook it up to a smart charger and top up the battery. Of course the smart charge system will then start discharging it because.... well because it is smart 😞

Yes, they replaced it under warranty after a few tests and now it seems to be fine, even if I let my car away for 3 weeks 🙂

I would suggest you to try to go at another garage and have this replaced under the warranty.
